Default Climbing in Anaheim

I'm going to be in LA next month, staying in Anaheim.
I may have a day, or half a day, to do some climbing.
I've tried to do some searching, but come up with lots of
other things besides that area.

Does anyone have any pointers on places close by?
I'll be with others, so don't want to get too far away.
I saw Joshua Tree, but it may be too far for my schedule.
I'm up for outdoors, but could do some indoors if that's
all I can get in. Rock City is close, but I didn't see
much info on their site. I haven't been outdoors much, so
I'm probably in the up to 5.9 range.

Also, I'll be the only one climbing, so is there someway
to hook up with a group out there?

Thanks in advance.

Hahahah... that makes me think... a couple of years ago when it was
the Disney 50th Anniversary, they had climbers roping up and belaying
Mickey up the "Matterhorn" twice a day. Goofy wants to go, but needs
some "gear," so says he's going to get it from the Pirates of the
Carabiners.

I travel to the O.C. a far bit. Usually head to Rockreation in Costa
Mesa if time is an issue and I'm not up for fighting the traffic.

After work, I've been to Big Rock and Ortega Falls. Years ago to
Rubidoux.

Big Rock is pretty fun, mostly slab friction. Careful parking there,
as break in's are common (you'll see the busted window glass). We
drove by the other day and a police car was makin' the rounds. Was
105F, too, so slab in the sun woulda been a touch toasty.

Ortega is neat, if it weren't for all the graffitti and garbage.

I"ve bouldered a bit at Pirate's Cove in Corona del Mar, but, its
pretty slippery and there's a huge jump between easy and very hard,
with little (for me!) in between. Really neat location, though, and
if you walk down the beach to the south, there's some more crags on
the beach that have bigger holds, but, looser rock.

I have done Tahquitz after work in the early summer from Orange
County. Its also much, much cooler than the lower lying crags
nearby. But, it seems like unless you get a decently early start and
beat the rush hour on the freeways, you'll spend a huge amount of time
in traffic. Worth half day, though, IMHO. If you feel comfy soloing
easy long routes...there's a bunch to choose from. And, there's a bit
of bouldering in the area too. Idyllwild is a great place to hang
when it gets dark, too. Cafe Aroma is a fav. Say hi to the carrot/
curry soup for me.

As far as people to hook up with, you might try mountainproject and/or
rockclimbing.com as they both have partner forums.

Man, that's a winter time place to go.

Depends on sun orientation. Suicide can be fine. Tahquitz is more
important in that that is really where decimal rating got refined.
