What is there better to do (remembering that usenet access is an
important ingredient of Internet Access)?

Let alone all those people who say a major reason for using a train
(instead of driving) is because you can work. My work arrives by
Internet.

Kiddy toys. I need proper Internet access.

My point about the Journey Planner stands, and I agree with you about
the LDB. What I meant to say is that when viewing the LDB for a station
besides StP, if StP is on the list of other stations the corresponding
service calls at then it will be shown as 'London St Pancras (Domestic)'
or 'STPXBOX'. It is only when you view the LDB specifically for STP
(note that StP and STP have distinct meanings here) that only EMT
services show up.

They might have ben used to it at the old station, but that was because
they could see the open air. Surely the automatic assumption is that if
you're underground you won't be able to use your phone?

Do they work at City?

TL commmuters are used to using their phones in KXTL (and Farringdon)
so will not be happy.

Well I will be happy - not having to put up with their (most of the time)
pointless conversations that could easily wait.

It's going to be hit and miss, depending on the network, handset and
other conditions. And, between Farringdon and King's Cross TL you
wouldn't maintain a signal all the way - so it's not going to make too
much of a difference.

However, in due course, I'd expect to see proper coverage at these
stations and many more (plus inbetween) - depending on the results of
the Waterloo & City line trial.

Well, the new BlackBerry models now have 1) A proper web browser and
2) Wi-Fi... so these users will want fast, cheap Internet access too.

Personally, I use HSDPA to get 3.6 (or soon 7.2Mbps) for myself - but
Wi-Fi still has its place. StP will be getting it, but it seems to
have been delayed.

You have my sympathies. When I leave the office the job stays behind
and I go back to my real life.

And the iPhone will also pick up wifi, iirc.

(As for Blackberry style access, I want to be able to work on my laptop,
not browse a sunset of my email with the aid of a magnifying glass. I
used something a bit like a Blackberry a long time ago, and it
definitely has its place, although not scalable to my current
requirements).

As do some (many?) far more reasonably-priced phones...
