Default Airport shuttles

My friend and I will be arriving at 9:30 on a Fri. night and I know the
line for cabs will be an Hour + long, so does anyone have a preferred
shuttle to take?
We will be staying on the strip so the price will be cheaper than
taking a cab and hopefully the wait will be shorter.

You can take the shuttle but check the cab line first. Two shuttle
tickets will cost roughly the same as your cab ride, depending on how
far you're going. Also the shuttle may make several stops before it
arrives at your hotel.

Definitely use a cab for the ride back to the airport.

Default Airport shuttles

I use shuttles when I travel alone because I like to know what it'll
cost me ahead of time and I usually enjoy the company of the other
people often coming to Vegas for the 1st time. BUT the wait in line and
on the bus before it leaves the airport can be painfully long.

With two or more people I'd take a cab & tell him "ifyoutake me through
the tunnel you don't get a tip"

Take a shuttle to the car rental terminal and take a cab from
there...........
We're staying at Bill's (the price has jumped from the $340 I booked to
$610 tonight) so the trip up the strip shouldn't be that bad.
My main concern is our flight is due to arrive at 9:40 in the pm and
by the time we exit the plane, take the "tram" from the D gates and get
downstairs it may be 10 o'clock and then an hour on line for a cab and
my friend ( Vegas virgin) may well be like a 4 yr. old. He has no
patience and I don't need an unhappy camper to start the weekend in
Vegas.
I guess I'll play it by year, the good thing is I can see the taxi line
from the tram as it approaches the main terminal.

If you are looking for a shuttle to Bills I'd say probably just go with
whatever has the shortest line and wait time, IE: some will have a sign up
that there won't be another shuttle for an hour if its very busy.

That said, its a Friday...

On our November trip to Las Vegas we arrived on a Friday night (7PM-ish) and
the taxi line was HUUUUUUUUUGE (about as long as I've ever seen it, lined up
to the baggage claim area) so we went to the shuttles and there was no line
for Showtime... was just buy tickets and board and we took the last two
seats so the shuttle was on its way.

Our destination was Luxor and I can say in hindsight that we probably would
have saved half an hour if we went through the taxi line instead:
Going down Tropicana to Las Vegas Blvd traffic was really bad.
First stop was MGM Grand and the main entrance was so snarled with taxis and
people coming and going that it took us almost 15 minutes just to get up to
the doors to let passengers off and then another 5 minutes or so to work our
way on to the street.

Next stop was NYNY and it was about the same - very bad traffic just getting
there and when we did arrive they had to stop and go and stop and go every 5
feet just to slowly inch our way up to the entrance.
After NYNY was Monte Carlo... it was so bad the driver just dropped people
off at the end of parking lot because we were sitting so long waiting to get
in there.

Excalibur and Luxor were pretty much the same as MGM Grand - took a long
time to get across Tropicana and pull in to Excalibur and then again had to
wait about 10 more minutes to get up there and unload passengers... at Luxor
he tried to get in to the normal shuttle drop off area but it was so bad he
just went around front and dropped us off at the valet after working our way
past a few dozen taxis blocking the street.

I normally have no problem with taking a shuttle as I don't mind the
normally short-ish ride and little visit to a few different properties, but
can just say that on a late Friday arrival I'd just go with the taxi and
save what will probably be a long and frustrating shuttle ride.

Default Airport shuttles

Most of the time, since it's just me arriving in Las Vegas, I'll take a
shuttle to the hotel & cab it back to the airport, although sometimes I'll
buy a RT ticket for the shuttle. I usually arrive in the early afternoon &
by the time the shuttle drops me off at my downtown hotel, it's check-in
time. Started using shuttles again after McCarren built that mouse maze
taxi stand & the wait in line for a cab became ridiculous.
Yeah, I'd still recommend the shuttle for one person if you want to
save some bucks and don't mind taking a grand tour of some other
properties on the way to your hotel. I've used it a couple of times on
arrival when I wasn't immediately picking up a rental car.

I have never waited more than 30 minutes for a cab in Vegas. I am
amazed when I here people say 1 hour plus.

What makes you think the line for a cab will be an hour long? Even when
I have been in Vegas for CES (which is probably the largest convention
they hold there), I have never waited more then about 20 minutes for a
cab in the middle of the day when the airport was very busy.

As for shuttles, I would just go with the first available.
