| | Guest | Is Las Vegas full of low lifes? Is this really a "Vegas Thing"? Alot on that list sounds like here in
Vancouver, BC...
> 1. Too many low lifes near Maryland Pkwy & Swenson, MLK, & Nellis

We have some craphole neighborhoods too.
> 2. too many low lifes stealing copper from street lamps.
People lose internet access up here because our thieves steal fibre optic
cable too.
> 3. Highest chop-shop and auto theft in the nation.
One of the Vancouver suburbs used to be dubbed "car theft capital of North
America"
> 4. Nobody wants to speak English anymore.
Lots of Chinese people living here so we hear Mandarin a lot. A few
shopping centers are set up catering almost strictly to and hard to find
somebody who speaks english if you have any questions.
> 5. Casinos negligent poor planning and ran out of money to finish
> their new hotels/casinos on the strip
Our casinos are being built, but then they are funded and regulated by the
government.
> 6. Highest foreclosures in the nation.
At almost $1,000,000 for a dinky little house people can't afford to buy a
home here.
> 7. Lousy traffic and lousy drivers
They just announced that this rickety old bridge thats been the cause of
death to many a driver over the years is going to take 10 years to replace.
> 9. High Meth use
Lots of drug use here too. Vancouver has a "safe injection site" for
junkies to shoot up under medical supervision.
> 10. Low-life LA gangs come into Vegas and do home-invasion/robberies/

> pack some heat.
Fair number of home invasions here as well, but not organized by gangs -
just druggies looking to score their next hit.
> 11. No subway from McCarran to the strip hotels
There is a Quiznos...
But seriously... do all US cities have a rapid transit system to/from the
major airports? We will have one here but not until next year.
Overall I think these are all just problems every major city experiences.

That would be East Los Angeles and has been since about 1960 when it
overtook Detroit and New Jersey.

Dunno what's typical. We're home 24/7 with 3 people living in the
house. My last bill was just north of $500, with winter bills <$150,
usually. We did install solar screens this Spring, which help more than
I had hoped.
The sewer problem was in the paper a few years back. They put a
televised robot into the downtown lines and discovered some that were
blocked by construction debris. I've not heard of smells since then,
but admit to not going downtown more than a couple times since moving
here. Since the valley 'drains' toward the LV wash, building on the
Strip shouldn't put pressure on downtown lines, I'd think.

Nonny:
Where you and your wife are retired, how do you feel about the quality
of medical care?
Doctors? specialists? hospital availability and quality?
