Wireless access from Vegas

The only hotel I've ever stayed in, in Las Vegas that is, that had
free WIFI is the Holiday Inn Express up by the Cannery.

The casino-hotels want you down in the casino playing, not up in the
room surfing! :)

Rates run typically between what's extortive and confiscatory, $8.99
to $15.99 or so per day, some, like Harrahs, give you a slight break,
but not much, for multi-day or weekly rates.

I stayed in a Courtyard by Marriott last June that had free WiFi in
all the rooms. My old laptop didn't have a WiFi card so the desk gave
me a cable-to-WiFi adapter for free that worked great. YMMV because
free in Modesto, Ca, may not mean free in Las Vegas.

FWIW, my new lap top has WiFi.

The Mirage charged me $13 for hi-speed access every 24 hrs in my room
which is probably on the expensive side but compared to what I would
have lost at the tables/slots, I thought it was a bargain:-)

I've found most of the strip hotels charge $13.99-$15.99 per 24 hours.
I've also been told by my host that they can't comp internet access
fees. My guess is that they must hire it out to someone
else...probably less of a headache for them.

I've also found it extremely difficult to access the wireless in the
rooms(at both Paris and Caesars). I try to connect, but the browser
gets hijacked from other companies trying to get you to use their
wireless access. Having had that happen several times, I noticed they
also have an Ethernet connection in most rooms. Using that proved to
be much easier, but it was still at the same rate as wireless.

So if they just charged an extra $15 a night on the price ($164
insteadof $149) it would be free???

Let's put it this way: I have a hard time seeing something that you're
charged $15 a day for as "free". Resort fees are basically a way to
add extra money to a hotel bill without having it show up when you are
comparing room rates and deciding which hotel to stay at- sort of like
how airlines are adding charges for extra bags and so on. (This is
something that will sneak up on you if you buy on Orbitz or Priceline
and then find out you're still getting dinged for a resort fee...
after you THOUGHT you prepaid everything.)

I think other hotels that do this (charge a resort fee) are Green
Valley Ranch, the Westin Casuarina, and the Riviera (off the top of my
head). I also think MGM Signature is the only one that includes
wireless access with the resort fee, though.
