I suppose that's fair... but I think it shows that why everyone's
chasing the upscale market; it's less sensitive to poor economic
conditions.
It's a very open question how far you can dilute it in Vegas, though,
given that the US isn't exactly tourist friendly these days ("Hi!
Welcome to the United States! Let's fingerprint you and take your
picture like you're a criminal!"), there's expansion in places like
Macau, and there's a glut of upscale condos on the market, too.
I would expect to see LOTS of good room deals for deluxe
accommodations on the Strip after NFR ends in early December...

I don't know about "deluxe", but my reservations for a week in
January 2009 in an off-strip upper-mid level hotel are less this
time than five nights were in January this year.
I booked directly as they were willing to let me have the same
price I found on a discount site.
Of course, I'll keep checking as the time gets closer.

Yeah, that sounds about right. I've seen a hotwire "4 star hotel
casino in Henderson" (read: GVR) for $79...

Yes, off-strip prices are certainly reasonable this year.

I told my Vegas Buddies the other day that once table minimums reach
$15, that I am out on Vegas. They were amused since my average bet is
probably $25 - $30, but I like the option of backing my bets back down
to $5 or $10--even if I rarely do.

I love the rooms at Sam's Town in Shreveport......very nice opulent
rooms. I just wish I could get a comp on the room (or at least a
decent rate). I haven't been in a while but I usually ended up staying
at El Dorado (or whatever it's called now). Could usually get the room
comped for one night and maybe $25 - $30 in meals. Not great but
usually there less than 24 hours.

I do remember seeing Siegfried and Roy there in the late 70's. $36 for
a dinner show with two drinks. Then it was very nice.
