driving to grand canyon?

staying at ventian. dont fancy the all day GC tour. Anyone know if
its safe to get a hire car and drive to the GC ?
I am wondering if its roads all thwe way or dirt roads. Also are
there any restaurants located at the GC?

When you consider the car hire costs, the gas and food costs and the
fact that it's going to take a couple of days, unless you like
marathon driving, I'd consider to opt for the flight out there. I've
never met anyone that wasn't amazed at the sight but after all it's
just a big hole.
