IMHO, the easiest way is to get a cell phone/PDA, such as I
use here and when traveling to stay in touch. Unless you
need the larger screen or full sized keyboard, a cell
phone/PDA or Blackberry would be tops.
The airport here in LV has free WiFi Internet access in all
the terminals. It's also available in a number of coffee
shops, but I strongly suspect that our hotel/casinos would
prefer to sell you daily access than to let you have it for
free. I understand that wasn't your real question, but
having connectivity is the first part.
When G. and I travel, we take along both my HP6151
(Cingular) cell phone/PDA and also Gloria's HP PDA. My cell
phone is not WiFi enabled, but I can still go online over
the high speed network of Cingular to get acceptably fast
email downloads and to visit needed web sites. When WiFi is
available, I switch to Gloria's PDA for browsing, but still
prefer my cell phone/PDA combination for email, since it has
a thumb keypad. WiFi is still faster and more reliable when
viewing web pages, IMHO, but the cell phone/PDA will work.
An interesting extra on my HP cell phone is that it has an
internal GPS receiver that seems to work even inside some
buildings. For instance, I was walking around Caesar's
Palace one afternoon and obtained a decent GPS lock from
inside the Forum Shop retail area.
I'd say that for the ultimate connectivity and ease of use
with today's technology, you might consider a WiFi equipped
laptop with a Cingular or Sprint PCMCIA cell phone card, if
you can stand the weight and bulk. It wouldn't be with you
all the time, though. IMHO, the ultimate cell phone/PDA
will be the next incarnation of the one I have- by HP, that
will give up one of the two SD slots to give you built in
WiFI. I know, I could get a SDIO WiFi card for my present
phone, but I don't want something sticking out the side of
it when keeping it in my belt holster.
