| | Guest | Where To Stay Hi - my pre-teen son and I were in Vegas for a week the end of last
August - one of the greatest vacations ever - but we stayed at Circus
Circus - what a nightmare...terrible place - pools that were a
disgrace... Looking forward to going back - and choosing between
Excalibur, Luxor, NY NY, Monte Carlo - somewhere up in that
neighborhood (physically and money-wise). Looking for a great pool this
time, somewhat kid-friendly (but not overrun with kids) , a little
nightlife for me. I dont care about the casino - Any suggestions?
Thanks so much... | |

| | Guest | Where To Stay Have you checked the MGM? Great pool and great nightlife plus lots of
kid stuff. The joint is super huge (a downside to some) but would meet
all your needs. Not sure how it prices out however.
Monte Carlo has the best pool of the ones you mentioned. It is not
overly kid-friendly tho. I'd call NYNY your 2nd (or 3rd if MGM is in
there) choice. It has a fun party vibe and some cool kid stuff, but a
plane jane pool area. The Excal has a bland pool and not much to offer
grown ups.
I don't know too much about the Luxor.

| | Guest | Where To Stay First I'd rule out MC because it is not physically "attached" to the
other properties, not that you'd let a preteen run around by himself,
but MC also is more or an adult place.
Second, if you hated Circus Circus, it is my impression that Excalibur
is not much better.
So that leaves you with NYNY, which is my favorite for location if
nothing else, though the pool isn't that great, and Luxor, which is
pretty neat for both you and your kid.
Do think about MGM if you are a track star and don't mind LONG walks.
BTW, what do you plan to do with your kid when you are downstairs in
the casino? Baby-sitter?

afford it, Mandaley Bay would be much better.

I would suggest NYNY. It has pizazz and is within walking distance of
other medium-to-upscale resorts. (Walking means walking on fit, youngish
legs.) Luxor is good too but further away from
Bellagio/Mirage/Paris/Wynn.
Excalibur is just a cleaner version of CC. Monte Carlo is the most blah
casino/hotel on the Strip.

Thanks to all for your replies - this is the first time I've posted on
this newsgroup - If Excalibur is ANYTHING like Circus Circus was last
summer - I'll stay away... I WILL check out MGM - just the location I
wanted - don't mind walking at all. May have more questions before we
go in August - thanks again! | |

Glad you found us helpful even though everybody told you to do
something different :)
Welcome to the crazy gang! Bring on the further questions...If you weed
out the cr@p, this newsgroup has some of the best Las Vegas info you
can hope to find. But sometimes you have to do alot of weeding!

| | Guest | Where To Stay Hi Amy -
I"ve been a lurker here for a while - but will contribute more... Last
August was my first time to Vegas - each year my son and I go somewhere
different - and we already decided it will be our regular vacation
spot... Thanks again! | |

If the pool is the primary consideration, I'd pick Monte Carlo -
love their pool area. There's a regular pool, a kids pool, a wave
pool, a "lazy river", forget what else. A pre-teen would love it
too.
