| | Guest | Gambling in Vegas I enjoy reading the interactions of this group and plan on continuing
to do so. I notice more and more people discussingt their bouts with VP
when in Vegas and infrequently see craps table stories discussed.
I has reading one of your stories this morning with an individual
lamenting about the severe reduction in table games in Vegas, and agree
that there were many more tables in '73 than currently.
My question is this. Why do more people play VP than table games like
craps? Why would an individual play slots at all? Do you see the
eventual retirement of table games to cater to the VP "enthusiasts" any
time soon? | |

Craps is discussed here periodically. But you should try
rec.gambling.craps for all day everyday craps discussion.

Yup more machines less table games. But it is not just the machines
that have taken over, it is also the carnival games with very favorable
odds for the house. Like Caribbean Poker, Pai Gow, Three Card Poker,
Let It Ride , etc., etc. The bottom line though is that there are still
plenty of bj and craps tables available if you want to play.

Don't confuse VP with slots. I don't play VP that often but the game is
interactive enough to have a definite strategy. It is also one of only
two games in the casino with a possible positive expectation. (I am not
counting poker)

That has already happened in the racetrack machine casinos of the
Northeast. But for at least our lifetimes I think live action table
games will continue in places like LV, Atlantic City and other
destination gambling places.

you don't need to understand everything to play craps; you can learn enough
to keep you entertained then watch the table and learn, it's fun

Let me give you a personal example. I lost over $600 playing bjack over
the Labor Day weekend at Wynn and got "zilch" in offers.
I lost $400 over a 72-hr period playing 25 cent VP at Wynn in October
and got a FREE room offer for 2 nites at Wynn. Waddya think the odds
are that I'm going be playing VP next time I go to Wynn's? I'll
continue to play bjack at the $5 single-deck game at Four Queens and
the $!0 double-deck at the Stardust but play 25 cent VP at Wynn's.
I play blackjack and slots and now a LOT of VP. I like playing table
games like bjack , but I KNOW that I get all the FREE rooms and other
offers for playing slots and VP.

This what I was saying on the slot host thread. Casinos and hosts love
slot and roulette players. You don't have to be a black chip player as
in bj, to get a host and excellent comps when you play machines and
and/or roulette. The losses are so much faster and at such a higher
percentage that relatively low rollers can do very well with comps. Of
course the fact that you really don't have much of a chance to win is
the tradeoff. But if you are going to play those games anyway you might
as well get everything you can get.

On average I find that about one out of every ten dealers has a clue
about the game of bj. But on the other hand why would any player think
that a dealer knew anything about the game? A dealers job is to shuffle
the cards, deal the cards, pay the winners, take the losers money. With
the exception of adding up the cards no part of the job specs includes
thinking about the cards. So shame on any player who thinks that a
dealers anecdotal advice, like a ten always follows a ten is anything
but laughable. | |

| | Guest | Gambling in Vegas What you've gotta remember is Craps is an all American game. You never
hear a quiet craps table. The VP machines are like those Japanese hotel
"boxes", where you just crawl in and go to sleep.
Play craps, man! Live your life!

Comps are given as a function of what you are calculated to loose.
Anytime one plays a game that is rated a higher loss rate then comps go
up. | |

Of course but getting comp rooms at Wynn for playing 25 cent 9/6 JOB
is a FANTASTIC deal IMO. Let me tell ya, there were players camping out
at those 4 machines:-) I was just lucky to read about 'em in LVA,
otherwise I would have never known!
