| | Guest | Living in Las Vegas We are considering moving to Las Vegas or North Las Vegas and wonder how
those of you who live there like it. We wouldn't plan on spending time in
the casinos, so that isn't important. We are retired, don't play golf, and
have relatives in the area. What things do you like about the area, and what
don't you like? | |

| | Guest | Living in Las Vegas Just because they have realatives there doe's not mean they could ask
them everything about the area. I have an aunt who is a retired Baptist
missionary liveing in Winston Salem NC. She doe's not believe in
drinking so I could not ask her where the best bars in the area are. One
time I told her I was going to Vegas and she asked if I was going to
gamble. I said yes. She said I did not think Christians gambled!

Well that's what I figured (or at least hoped) the poster was talking
about. North Las Vegas is a completely separate independent city, with
city limits.

Well, maybe some Baptists don't gamble, but many religious people have
no problem with it as long as it's done in moderation. Let me remind you
(and your aunt) of "Casino Nights" that many churches used to have as
fundraisers before casinos were widespread. There was a Big 6 wheel (and
more) in a storage room of our church basement when I was a kid.

When my Catholic school had 'casino night' in the 70's, it would usually end
every night by the NEED vice squad breaking it up because the legal limits
for charity casino games was exceeded, and someone who lost would rat them
out.
ah, the good old days...

| | Guest | Living in Las Vegas One thing, my parents lived in Vegas some years ago and liked it OK
except for one thing. They would make friends with people who turned out
not to be able to handle the gambling so there was a lot of turnover of
people. They eventually moved to a retirement complex in California
where they could make longer term friends. Perhaps that's changed, but
something to think about.

| | Guest | Living in Las Vegas That's sure something to consider. Since we are not interested in gambling
or the casinos, we wouldn't have much in common with people who hung out
there. We have varied other interests and family members there that would
take up our time.
This is a very interesting newsgroup. I appreciate all the helpful posts.

| | Guest | Living in Las Vegas Yes, we are Californians - by way of Illinois, Georgia, South Carolina,
Alabama and Arizona. What we really are are Americans. Thanks for the vote

: Sounds like a Californian. Californians will ruin Las Vegas the same as
: they did here in Seattle.
