Some observations on Las Vegas I was in Las Vegas last week, staying two nights at the Vegas Club.
Nothing out of the ordinary happened to make a trip report, but I
observed a few things.
1. There is a luxury condominium high rise being built between
Neonopolis and El Cortez. Will "luxury" condos sell in that part of
town? If so, will the people there go to the nearest casinos? (Gold
Spike and El Cortez). El Cortez seems to be cleaning up, and doing
some remodelling, probably going after the condo owners.
2. South Coast casino looks like it's nearing completion. I assume
they're going after the locals in the fast growing south part of Las
Vegas, since they are so far south of the strip.
3. Downtown is becoming a mini strip. Table minimums are going up,
and time share whores have invaded.
4. Speaking of time shares, why would anyone buy one in a city with a
large number of reasonably priced hotel rooms?
5. Fitzgerald's has gotten rid of the kiosks that printed coupons for
match plays, discounts, etc., and told how much the player has in
comps. , that was the best comps system I've seen. The player's
card could also be used to pay in the gift shop, restaraunts, or check
out. I don't know if they changed that.
6. There is an Indian casino being built in Barstow. Personally, I
wouldn't stop there, since I can be at a real casino inside of two
hours. I doubt if there is a big enough population to support a locals
casino either, but there are probably enough people who don't agree
with me to support it.
7. Decent blackjack games can still be found downtown, if not on the
strip.
8. Binion's might make it after all, now that Harrah's isn't part of
it. More tables, though not as many as in it's golden age, and no
dealer hustling for tips. |
