Default Smoke Gets in Your Eyes

Yes, it was a great song from the Platters but it is also the song of the day
here in LAS. As David Berman pointed out, the smoke from the Southern
California fires began drifting into the Las Vegas valley this morning. The
burning smell followed a short time later. From my vantage point about 7 miles
west of the strip, it is not unusual to see the strip and the downtown area
blanketed with a thin layer of smog, but today visibility seems to be about a
mile and is decreasing. The strip including the Strat is nowhere in sight from
West Sahara Ave.

I would strongly suggest arriving visitors with acute respiration problems to
take appropriate precautions. The word on the street is to stay indoors as much
as possible, close all windows and use your A/C even though it is a pleasant
day temperature wise outside.

No word on any airport problems or delays yet but that could change if
conditions continue to deteriorate.

Fortunately all the casinos are air conditioned and should pose no problems.
I wish I could get my place to smell like it does in the Venetian. What kind of
air freshner do they use anyway?

that "thin layer" is several thousand feet thick.

Not Always. Most of the time I can see the tops of the major casinos

It does smell good in there and the Monte Carlo smells very good also. I hope
somebody knows what they use.

Here in Phoenix, AZ we have smoke too and warnings to keep the windows and
doors shut also.
