Default The Smoke Has Arrived

Borne on strong winds at high levels, residents of the Las Vegas Valley are
receiving a modest reminder of the tragic California fires this morning.

A light gray pall is in the sky, and a strong, acrid smell is upon us. It's
that smell you detect when someone is burning brush in the neighborhood.

We had that same kind of thing here in New England when there were those big
forest fires in Quebec a couple of years back. The effect was eerie-casting
a haze over the sun and moon. We had the kind of health advisories that are
usually only heard in big urban areas-people with breathing disorders were
warned to stay indoors, etc.

A few miles east of downtown we have the haze in the sky, more than usual.
The smell I chalk up to the El Cortez.

Those knucklehead farmers in Mexico are likely owned by US based
trans-national corporations and under strict orders from fat cat American
executives, with dust on the gas pedal of their Mercedes the closest they
have been to stepping foot in a farm.

Pretty hazy in Phoenix this morning - kinda hard to see the mountains
on the drive in to work.
