Default Min. age to get a hotel room?

I am moving to LV next year and will be driving out in January to check it
out. While in LV I will need a room for a few days - I have been looking at
the Stratosphere. A friend mentioned that I probably can't get a room,
because every near hotel has a casino and the hotels want you to be 21 to
even get a room. I am 20.

I'd preffer to stay in LV in a semi decent hotel instead of some cheap
motel. Can anyone make suggestions how to go about getting a room in LV?
Could it get reserved under a parent (then, would I be able to check in with
out them, since I am going out alone?)... what are my options here besides
going out of LV to some motel? I'd really like to get a room at the
stratosphere if I could.

Brian

Not every hotel in Vegas is a casino. Alexis Park comes to mind, west of
the strip by a mile, and perhaps some of the resorts up near Lake Las
Vegas. Probably pretty pricey tho Alexis Park can be rather affordable if
no big convention is in town (its mostly a suite hotel for exhibitors).

Go a bit further out to the west and you'll find normal hotels - I'd check
Best Western, Red Roof, etc listings. Yep, you may need to drive or cab
ride to the strip, but that's not all bad.

Your best option is to call the Stratosphere's reservation desk to ask
for authoritative information on this subject rather than accepting info
from complete strangers.

Just a followup. I caved in and called the vegas.com travel agents and got a
room for three nights at the Riviera, for about $130 for all three nights
with tax and fees included. Not too bad so we booked it. Vegas here I come!

Thanks for all your help everyone!

Brian

There are many, many non-casino hotels in Vegas. Some quite nice.

St. Tropez All Suite Hotel SC - 455 East Harmon Ave - 3 star

La Quinta Inn Las Vegas Airport - 3970 South Paradise Road (near the
college) - 3 stars

There are Extended Stay America (all suite hotels) around town. $45 and up
per day. They have free local calls, limited kitchens w/ microwave, coffee
maker, and refrigerator.

Look for Holiday Inn, too.

Wherever you stay, expect to pay $40 - $80 Sun - Thurs and a lot more on
the weekends.

Good luck. Enjoy UNLV. It's a great campus. I had a look at a program
there myself. Awesome school.
