| | Guest | Aladdin Question All-
I have recently become fairly high on the food chain in the Aladdin's
Players Club. I know that it will be at least through this year before the
name and major structures change, but, after it does, I wonder if I will
transfer to the Planet Hollywood list?
Not that I'm very excited to be involved with PH, but just curious if anyone
here has ever been transferred from club to club when a Vegas hotel goes
under. Seems like PH would be happy to have a "ready made" list of clients,
but I have no idea.
Thanks all,

| | Guest | Aladdin Question Hi Frank,
Hope you understand it's still kind of early in the game to have the answer
ot that question, but I'd bet yes. High rollers do not like to be told all
their work was for naught, and I imagine the slot club list gets moved over
as well. It was only some years back when Park Place bought Caesars and I'm
sure there would have been a HUGE drop in business if they told the Caesars
customers they're back at zero!
Additionally, new places are desperate to draw in some regulars by the time
their "new" image drifts away (especially if their location has failed to
draw people in the past, like the Aladdin.) I highly suspect all you'll have
to do is show the club desk your Aladdin card and ask "can I use this?" and
they'll eagerly move your stats to a new card.

| | Guest | Aladdin Question You can bet they will beg you to come down. They will also try to "buy" a
sucessful casino host from another property with his or her's list of
players. You can bet that will happen. They will want to get as many
people as possible to the casino as quickly as possible.

| | Guest | Aladdin Question This was one of the several problems the "new" Aladdin had initially....no
player list. They did start from scratch. I'm pretty sure Las Vegas
learned from that mistake, but who knows.
The nearest parallel right now would be the Golden Nugget, which surely had
the best list of names downtown. Did the new owners buy the list? Any GN
regulars getting mailings? The situations aren't quite the same, as I'm
sure MGM-Mirage didn't want to part with names in the sale, but we can gauge
how important they were by seeing if they were part of the deal.
In the Aladdin's case, given that they are in bankruptcy, if I were the
judge I would consider the list of names to be an asset that should go with
the new owners.

Those would be the smart things to do. But Planet Hollywood's past
experience is no indication that they will do the right things that would
enable them to succeed. These is not a company of seasoned casino operators
but an outfit with a dismal track record of successive failure in the
restaurant business. After having twice filed bankruptcy during its
relatively short existence, Planet Hollywood had barely emerged from its
second bankruptcy when it came up with its plans to buy the Aladdin.
In its restaurants it tried to substitute celebrity hype as its attraction
instead of customer service and quality food . During its very short
business peak, it maintained a policy of not taking reservations. Lines were
long and customer service was slow. People waited endlessly for mediocre
food, giving them little reason to return. But the operators had the
attitude that it didn't matter because there will always be more customers
drawn by public fascination with the business's celebrity collaboration. And
even when the business was collapsing, the operators were coming up with
similar business plans for new restaurants like the All-Star Cafes which
also met with failure. When the stock price plummeted, they created a phony
loan scheme to reimburse and reward their celebrity backers while the rest
of the shareholders and creditors got fleeced.
Now the Planet Hollywood operators plan on bringing the same strategy to the
Aladdin that was a proven failure at their restaurants. Can a different
result be expected? | |

| | Guest | Aladdin Question I would agree with your opinion of Planet Hollywood, but I believe starwood
is the owner and will manage the hotel. I am sure the Planet Hollywood
involvement will be minimal other than use of the name for a royalty fee ,
attending the premeir and donating costumes. We will see how starwood does
after screwing up ownership at caesars. | |
