Default Garmin 530 VOR Approach Using GPS or VLOC

I have a Garmin 530 and a KAP 140 autopilot in my 182. I was
practicing VOR approaches with the CDI on the 530 set to GPS. I
noticed that the autopilot would warn that it was about to disengage
when I reached the FAF. It does this consistently. If I put the CDI in
VLOC, the autopilot would not try to disengage.

I tried a VOR approach at another airport with the CDI set to GPS and
at the FAF a message came up on the 530 warning me to set the CDI to
VLOC.

I know that on an ILS approach the 530 will warn you to set the CDI to
VLOC but I never read anywhere that it does the same thing on a VOR
approach.

I called Garmin and they suggested I put the CDI in VLOC but they
didn't tell me that it had to be in VLOC for the approach. They only
said the 530 could be sending a signal to the autopilot to disengage
is the CDI is not set to VLOC.

Anybody have any ideas on this?

Regards,

Richard

I have a 430 and its connected to my HSI and to my auto pilot (piper auto
pilot)
my auto pilot will fly the plane untill it hits the ground if I let it. At
the MAP I hit "susp" and then the auto pilot will fly the missed. All I do
is set my HSI to what ever the GPS says and it flies the line. Never
disconnects. You may want to take it to your avionics shop, see if it has
a setting they can change to keep it from doing that.
