Default fabric/leather or all leather boots?

I was just wondering if the consensus of hikers/backpackers is going toward
the mixed fabric and leather boots. Is the all leather boot becoming a
dinosaur? The guys at my local shop could argue this point all day long.
Like the beer drinkers, but with one side saying "Less weight---Lighter!"
and the other side saying "Last longer--more ankle protection!"

Personally, I'll opt for leather upper for the breathing quality,....
nothin' worse than soggy feet after a good hiking sesh. Although I'll
be careful drying them out in wet conditions... leather has a habit of
shrinking when exposed to really hot temps.
