| | Guest | Daypack with large zippers (YKK #10) I'm tired of daypacks where the zipper is destroyed after two years.
Hence, I'm looking for a daypack (25-35 Liters) with huge zippers such
as YKK #10. Any suggestions?

IIRC, the BD bullet pack has a 10 YKK. and its cheap, but small for
most purposes except climbing with it. is that what you intended?
its not too hard to sew a fat zipper into an old (or new) pack if you
have a machine. the zippers are readily and cheaply available all over
the internet.

incidentally, in my experience the life of the zipper is not completely
dependent on zipper size. ive seen plenty of ykk10's dead after a year
or two of abuse. might be worth checking for flaps that cover zippers
in use as much as the zipper size.

Get a proper pack with a flap and never think about it again.
Macpac and tatonka both make a variety of such packs, I think berghaus
does as well. Availability is of course, a different matter altogether

Top loader with drawstring.
Been around for years.
Requires planning on what and how you pack.
Simple.
Efficient. | |

Zippers will only let you down... about a decade ago I looked high and
low for a day pack which was essentially a sack... Jandd in Santa
Barbara had the perfect product, the only zipper was in the pocket that
flapped over the large opening top, which cinched shut with a
drawstring.
Best damn day pack I've had. Too bad Jandd went out of business (I
believe).
In the SF Bay Area I could recommend a repair shop that does excellent
work, and would replace the zipper with something heavier duty, and
other repairs. They cost, but it is worth it considering the cost of
good gear. Save do-it-yourself repairs for the simple stuff, let the
pros take care of the difficult stuff.
You might consider sending it to the manufacturer (call first), many
will do repairs on their gear.
