Default (Varroa Mite) Varroa Corps....

An excerpt from a Hawaii Beekeeper Association
newsletter....

"We believe that to optimally suppress Varroa on O`ahu
it will be necessary to locate, sample, exterminate and
contain all managed honey bee colonies and as many
feral colonies and swarms as possible in the shortest
possible time... to be followed with replenishment
using "clean" honey bee colonies from the other
islands. This will require the deployment of an "Area
Wide Campaign" strategy across the island using both
public and private groups, which we collectively refer
to as the Varroa Corps O`ahu, that will systematically
search specific sectors of O`ahu island for the
presence of honey bee colonies."

It's a volunteer effort. But I think it's been pretty
successful in my area. My lychee has started to flower
and I don't see any bees. Usually when I look up I can
see a bee or two polinating the flowers. And the guava
hasn't had much fruits either. Still a lot of fruit
flies for the white quava though. No longer have a
mango tree, but I notice that some have begun to flower
also. Wonder if bees have been polinating them? There
is a critical period before the flowers drop off that
they need to be polinated for any fruit at all. Spring
has sprung, but without the bees.

Alvin - how about parking in your back yard (where I presume your trees
are)
one of those vehicles that would have gone on the SuperFerry? From you've
preveiously posted, such vehicles are very attractive to honeybees. You
know...use that vehicle as a honeybee lure.
