Default More Wasps in Air shipment

In this morning's paper looks like some wasps survived
the low air pressure in an air shipment of Christimas
trees to Hawaii. State inspectors found some dead ones
too and refused to let the plan unload. The shipment
may be diverted to sell at cost or just returned to
alaska to be given away.

Apparantly, a lot of money is involved but it is
mitigated by (I guess) a consignment arrangement.
Shippers say in the article that they have lost about a
million dollars while one Hawaii non-profit says that
they have lost $10,000 in fundraising this season that
they might have made. It's too bad that the airplane
had no fall-back plan to fumigate the shipment as xmas
trees shipped in by Matson which have also had dead
wasps found by inspectors.

There's a companion article about an aligator lizard
found in a xmas tree that got through a Hawaii
inspection. Not really... it seems like there is a 100%
shake tree inspection before boarding the trees, but
Hawaii State inspectors here have only the manpower to
do sampled inspections and check out the floor area
that is exposed in the shipment. Of course, one wasp
condemns the whole shipment container-- or inspection
lot.

Critics of the Super Ferry seem so disturbed by the
loss of business and ignore the threat to the
environment. Why aren't they concerned about the losses
that the shippers and non-profits are incurring from
the non-shipment of trees or the extra cost of
fumigation for the condemned lots of trees on ships?
Don't they want trees too?

I found some strange looking live insect in the Christmas tree I
purchased from Home Depot. Their shipment was delivered in a Matson-
style container. When I took the tree home, the ants in my living room
quickly devoured the bugger. Survival of the fittest, Hawaii style.
These tough guys (ants) would probably make short shrift of mainland
spiders, too. So don't worry, be slappy. We got our own ecosystem
here, and it's da tough stuff.

I thought it's don't worry, be happy... Then why all
this concern about bags and our environment? Our
environment can take care of itself? At least, that's
Jerry's opinion...
