What right to assemble? The state denied public review
of the issue. When the protesters on Kauai
demonstrated, then the state organized the Coast Guard,
police and port authority to limit demonstrators
freedom of action and arrest people-- even threaten to
take people's kids away from them for endangerment.
It's good that the Super Ferry's Garibaldi had enough
common sense to call off the trip.

that was after the fact.
Where were they _before_ the ferry was built?
They knew that there was going to be one, didn't they?
Before somebody signed a contract or order form with a
shipyard. Before people where hired. It's been in the
Hilo paper for years, and the ferry isn't even
scheduled to go to the Big Island until 2009.

That's the point. At no time did the public have the
right to comment. Lingle simply said that there was no
need for that. It's her fault that the public is forced
to demonstrate to make a point. I guess she feels that
this favor of her govt is worth the help she got in her
last campaign. It's what happens when the law isn't
followed and govt refuses to listen to complaints.
