Since those `extraordinary times.. the 1980's..
when I first discovered paradise..
when it was a common sight to see on the streets..
and everywhere.. beautiful women.. and lovely girls..
wearing muumus..
making men much.. much more happy and pleased..
there has been a constant decline in the number
of muumus to be seen and appreciated..
Where have all the muumus gone?

There are still being sold in various department stores and a couple
of stores that specialise in selling them.

Yes, but old timey muumuus are not easy to find. We had to go to a
coffee trade show from Kona to Seattle and I was looking for a muumuu
or two last month. Went to Macy's as LH used to have a huge selection
of muumuus but jeepers, only found a very simple Reyn's for $80. The
other "muumuus, imho, looked like waitress outfits at a pretend
Hawaiian place. Shiny material, no real print, just a large design
splashed across the front. auwe

However some object to conscious

don't see that anywhere except in places like the plastic "tiki's grill
and bar" place in Waikiki, described by one hostess there as "giving
the tourists just what they expect and want to see; nothing at all
authentic, just 'mainland tiki' "
and of course, that has nothing whatsoever to do with Polynesia.

Sue.. the South Pacific theme is a formidable goal indeed.
The texture and look of lava rock is remarkable.
Good luck on your project.

It is truly tragic to see the monster mega buildings
being built along Ala Moana and other streets ..
replicating the modern look of New York chic.
THere is an extraordinary and remarkable traditional
design in the natural beauty of Hawai`i..
and talented artists and designers .. in collaboration
with the architects could capture the essense of that
tradition and incorporate features.. in a minimalistic
appropriate manner.. and create a unique and moving
experience.. that is Hawai`i.

Thanx...I'm taking a year to research it and accumulate photos and
resources with the hopes of starting the redecorating this time next
year. I really need to have all of my ducks in a row as the last thing I
want to happen is for it to look cheesy.
