Said the Advertiser:
"Several days of kona winds have blown Portuguese man-of-war toward
south-facing O'ahu shores with painful consequences for beachgoers,
Honolulu lifeguards said.
The south-to-southwest winds yesterday blew hundreds of man-of-war into
the popular swimming area of Ala Moana Beach, chasing swimmers out of the
water, lifeguards said today."
And even if you aren't in the water getting stung by jellyfish, it is hot,
steamy and more like Bangkok than Honolulu.

When I woke up this morning at 3:30 a.m. the temperature in my room was 82 degrees.

At least Bangkok has that merciful daily rain!
The north shore rain yesterday was a blessed relief. I heard the day was
quite sultry in town! | |

Well, we had it today, too, in Manoa, and all it did was make it more
steamy.

Walking around in a sweat-soaked tee shirt is SUCH a lovely feeling. :)
Guess it beats getting stung by jellyfish, though.

TONGA, TONGA, TONGA!!!
Prices are higher now than they were last year. Or two years ago. But...
You think they will be lower next year? Two years?
You think interest rates will be lower?
You really, REALLY think there will be a better time?

There's always a better time...
Rapid inflation in price because of low interest rate means that when
rates
go up, you'll be stuck with the
place. I know too many people who sold houses in HI in the late 90's and
took a bath. So, find us a deal.
Just missed a Manini way place. Teardown on level 5k sq foot corner with
nice view. Sold around $370K.
Agent and spouse a bit slow and me in Atlanta saying "get a contract!"
to
both of them. So yes, I'm ready
to buy. There just isn't that much there. Find me one like the Manini
way
place. Nice level lot with view,
close to UHM, teardown that I can 'rebuild' and end up at 80% of comps.
Figure $125/sq foot for 'rebuild'.
That gives some cushion for rise in rates and buyer pool drying up.
Have to
head back to ATL on the 16th
to work on permitting a house there so we can sell our old one and have
a
place for the kids to live while in
college. May as well take advantage of the low rates from the seller
side.

The only ones who took a bath in the late 90s were the ones who bought
in the late 80s or early 90s. Anyone who bought before about '88 was
fine. Those who bought in '89 to '94 are now able to sell for what they
paid.
Do you see anything about the current economic climate that predicts a
rerun of the 90s bubble and crash? 'Cause the economists I like the best
sure don't. Sklarz and Brewbaker are both still prediting 10-15% price
increases over the next 3-4 years.
Do you see any real reason to expect a REVERSAL or just a slowing of the
market when we hit whatever interest rate you see being enough to chill
buyers? How high would rates have to go to chill the market? Reverse it?
Is that at all likely?
Has there ever in history been a market like the 90's? Is it likely to
repeat?
Jas' a little food for thought. I don't have a crystal ball either, but
I can't see any reason to expect prices to drop in the next decade or
more. | |
