Bob,

we don't live on catchment, I'm just trying to farm off county water (without
catchment during the time of the last drought - carrying water in in
containers).
I don't know whether any of our friends had to get water delivered during the
last drought, but I know quite a few of them had to before - or take their
laundry to the laundromat and try to make the catchment last longer for the
other household needs. Much easier to do laundry elsewhere than do dishes or
have showers.

People sometimes take the opportunity if their catchment gets really low to
clean it, maybe replace the liner, and then get a truck load of water.

Nearly all tap water on Oahu is pumped from the underground aquifer.
To my knowledge, the lake in Nuuanu valley (Pali) is the only surface
catchment on Oahu that feeds into Oahu's water supply.

That's one thing I love about Oahu -- better water! I drink the tap
and it is some of the best tasting in the world. I do alot of
traveling, and in my experience very few places have better tasting
water than Oahu.

Too bad this isn't true for the other islands of Hawaii. Much of the
water on the neighbor islands is from surface catchment -- and the
taste of the water (in my experience) is noticably worse on Maui, The
Big Island, and Kauai.

How true. When we first moved here to Waimea, (Kamuela) six years ago,
my wife's hair started falling out in huge clumps. We were told that
the water was "not that good, but passed the minimum reguirements of the
water board" We switched to bottled water and have had no problems
since. Tim

Say what?

IMHO the Hilo water is the best in the world.
Yes, the water in Kailua-Kona is awful, never tried the water in Waimea, but
just saying that "_the_ neighbor island water is awful" tells me that you
haven't tried all of it ...
