You may want to go camping at Aiea Heiau State Park.
The bus stops about a quarter mile from the Heiau.
Commute is the pits though. If you bring your car over,
then you could sleep in that.

I think Chaminade College (Catholic) in Kaimuki also
has dorm facilities, but they might be reserved for
their students. But if their schedule is significantly
different from HPU's, then it doesn't hurt to ask for
specific dates. I've heard that the dorms in summers,
breaks are often available for some conferences, tours
etc.

I think they have some security at nite. There's a park
ranger that lives there and the gate is close to
visitors after hours. If you don't think that's safe
enough, then no park for camping is safe in Hawaii.
BTW, I think you may be required to use a tent for
sleeping in the park and I think they have rules on
fires and cooking. But I guess that enforcing these
rules would be up to the park ranger.
