I'm only guessing but I suspect that Jerry is Japanese-American, not White. I
think
Japanese are racist. I mean you can't even move into Japan unless you're
Japanese!

Was that intentional hyperbole? I know several Mainland-born
full-fledged haoles who have lived in Japan for years.

There's a difference between being Japanese and being
American. Jerry's American.

Do you know what you are talking about or do you just post messages to get a
reaction. While I was living there, you can meet people from all over the
world living in Japan. As a matter of fact, one of the nicest areas to go
to was outside of Tokyo, where there was a group of Germans living there.
And some of them had been there for a very long time. And what about the
Koreans living there. And what about all the people from the U.S. living
and working there. | |

Well, FWIW, my wife is from Florida, moved here almost fresh out of
high school sight unseen, and not only did things turn out okay, but
you probably couldn't pay her enough to even consider moving back.
If you're happier in Florida, I'm glad for you. I'm also glad for
Hawai`i.

Just a hunch, but the hint of racism might have come from statements
like that. Infested? Priceless. Americans? That's a classic. I'm
of Southeast Asian, Japanese _and_ Native Hawaiian descent, but funny
thing, I'm also an American.
Besides... what romanticized "Hawaii of yesterday" is pro-"American"
(by this I can only presume you mean white) and free of Asians? My
family, on both sides, has been here for over a century, and I'm
pretty sure they never lived in the kind of place you're talking
about. It never was the Elvis-ized, campy Gidget and Don Ho land it
was sold as, and I'm glad for that.

I need to ask this:
Given the topic of this thread, and the ongoing lament by many that
the unspoiled, pure, perfect nature of "old Hawaii" is long gone, I
find it odd that you would prefer a government-backed program to spray
chemicals into the air in neighborhoods every night over what is, at
most, a mild nuisance.
Mosquitos come and go - and if you're careful with standing water
'round your house, they're mostly go. A few years of nightly chemical
sprays, and that second head will be around forever.

No kidding... sheez.... what's the deal with people who think you have to be
burning crosses on the front lawn and wearing a beadsheet to be a racist? A
racist, pure and simple, is someone that sunscribes to beliving stereotypes
and not accepting each individual as an equal to the next regardless of
race. It is basic animal instinct to pre-judge situations on a quick surface
appearance - it is our duty as human beings to use our ability to reason
beyond that basic animalistic level.

I don't know any Hawaiian that isn't American. I have a number of
cousins born in Okinawa and other parts of Japan. I know the ones
born in Okinawa, but the ones in the other parts of Japan, I guess
they would be non-Americans, yet Hawaiians.

I think you are refering to westernized. I don't understand what you
mean by FREE OF ASIANS. Did she say that?

I'm sure we're all in that situation. Not sure about you, but I know
Lana like myself has Asian and European ancestry along w/ Hawaiian. I
know growing up on Molokai was quite different than say those on
O'ahu. | |

Judy, it still happens. Because if/when you're out of work an airline
ticket is also out of sight - if you want to also pay the bills and
eat.

Sharon, I hate to nitpick, but wasn't it an oil based
fog? The thin layer of oil on water puddles killed the
larvae by suffocation. We used to run through the fog
for fun.
