The OP asked for somewhere within half an hour of the airport. Unless my
geography is way out isn't Chios about 6 hours from Piraeus so making the
total journey about 7 hours?

I have just come back from Skiathos and I think it would be a good
place for you. There are lots of nice sandy beaches along the south of
the island and nowhere would be more than a half hour transfer from the
airport as the bus travels the length of the island in that time. You
could stay anywhere outside Skiathos town.
