| | Guest | Koufonissia Hi everyone,
We are visiting Koufonissia late summer and will arrive at 1.00am.
Does anyone know if local room owners meet the ferry as on other islands,
or would we better off booking in advance?
Thanks

| | Guest | Koufonissia Ian,
My experience is that room owners on the islands meet ferries whatever
time
of the night they arrive. Remember that on the small islands there
aren't
that many ferries per day (and night arrivals are common). So when a
large
ferry arrives (and I assume it is as the Skopelitis doesn't do night
trips),
it's their best chance of getting some custom.
How late is late summer? I have been to Koufonissi many times, arriving
from
round about the 25th August to the first few days of September and
mostly I
have had no problem at all. I expect to be there again this year. There
was
just one occasion (and it's quite a few years ago now) that I had a
struggle
to find a room, but found one eventually.
At 1:00 a.m. Koufonissi will not be dead. There will still be a few
bars
still open where you can make enquiries, in the unlikely event you
don't
find anyone at the port.

| | Guest | Koufonissia Thanks Greecemad,
We're aiming to get there second week in Sept, using Blue Star.
From what you've said there shouldn't be a problem. We've never had problems
before, but Koufonissia seems to be smaller than most of the islands we've
been to.
Cheers
Ian

If you're arriving in the second week of September there will certainly
be no problem with availability of accommodation. Also, on Koufonissi
the arrival of a Blue Star ferry is the big event of the week (and by
then I think it will only be doing one trip a week).
If you've never been before and you like somewhere quiet with excellent
sandy beaches, then you're in for a treat. What always amazes me are
the colours in the sea as you walk along the coast heading to the
beaches.
Enjoy your trip. I think I'll be back home by the time you get there.

Like many others, we too have our favourite place that we keep returning
to - but not at the exclusivity of trying other destinations in Greece from
time to time.
This sounds like a great place, and your arrival on the boat would appear to
be a Greek dream come true.
Do let us know about it later!
And thanks to Greecemad for putting this island so firmly in my
consciousness.

| | Guest | Koufonissia Henry,
It may have sounded like it but I don't go exclusively to Koufonissi.
I've been most years recently but always as part of an island-hopping
trip around the Cyclades late in the summer and earlier in the summer I
have made trips to Crete, the Sporades, the Dodecanese and even Corfu.

We tend to go to Crete (SW) more often than not, but have been to a few
other places too (Kos, Rhodes, Pelopponese, Lesbos, Parga, Corfu).
About a dozen years ago, I s'pose, we had a great holiday in Corfu. We made
our way to Anthoussa, and spent nearly two weeks relaxing, which was just
what we wanted at that time. If fact, we rather like Corfu: in particular,
sitting at the Liston enjoying a (very expensive, but what the heck) beer
and watch the cricket is just about the height of civilisation as far as I'm
concerned.
One thing we have never really done is island-hopping. It is something I'd
dearly love to do, but I would need quite a bit more than the ubiquitous two
weeks. My longer term strategy is to aim for island hopping in a sailing
boat - that would be a dream come true.
But this year it's 'only' Crete again - and that's only if we get the time,
which isn't particularly likely :o(

| | Guest | Koufonissia Hi,
Does anyone know if there is a bank, ATM or somewhere to change travellers
cheques in Koufonissia?
Thanks
