Athens Hotel for short stopover

Hi

I need to stay at a hotel overnight and take a 6am flight out of
Athens.
The Sofitel seems to be the only hotel close to the airport, but far too
expensive for me.

Can anyone suggest the preferable location for a hotel given that I will
only be sleeping there and will need to be out to the airport early.
(the area with the minimal travel time to teh airport would possible be
the best?)

I wondered if teh beach side locations would be easier/quicker than
central Athens?

Any advice would be great.

Hi Roger,
There really is nothing closer as of yet.
I usually take either the bus, a taxi or the new subway to Plaka,
and stay at either the Hotel Hermes or the Hotel Afroditi on Apollonos
Street. These hotels have been recently upgraded with sound proofed
windows and are quiet.
Hermes and Afroditi are a couple of blocks from Plaka and
Kidathineon Street, so you can grab a quick bite before you crash.
Some of the top rooms even have "the view" of the Acropolis.
The rub is that you must make the 45 minute journey back and forth
from the airport.

A couple of years ago I travelled by bus from the port of Rafina to the
airport, and it went through a resort on the coast which must only have been
about 10 minutes from the airport. Looking at the map, I think it must have
been Loutsa. I've no idea what hotels there are there, but it must be a lot
closer than anyhwere in the Athens area.
