| | Guest | Guide / Idea for 3 days in Greece I have 3 days in early July that I would like to use to see a little bit
Greece. Any suggestions on place / guide? This is my first time to Greece
so just about any location with historical or scenic sites would be fine.
With only 3 days, I think it is best that I focus on one location. Any help
is most appreciated. Please post the responses to the group.

| | Guest | Guide / Idea for 3 days in Greece It would easily be possible to spend 3 days in Athens, but it can be
crowded, hot and sticky in July.
I would consider Nafplio. It's a beautiful little town, with a large
Venetian fortress on its headland. From there you can get to Mycenae,
Epidavrus and Tiryns easily by public transport, although it is
quicker if you hire a car. Similarly Nafplio is 3 hours by bus from
Athens, but only 2 hours if you drive yourself.
If you do hire a car I'd recommend a stop at Ancient Corinth on the
way. Only 5 minutes of your route and a very undervisited site. The
Roman remains are quite extensive and there is an ancient Acropolis
above them. Walk up through this - admittedly quite a long walk - and
you get to a point where you can see both ends of the Corinth Canal.
If that all sounds like too much travel I'd plump for Delphi - an
extensive site in a beautiful mountain location.
Have fun

| | Guest | Guide / Idea for 3 days in Greece Thanks to all great suggestions. Nafplio sounds just right. I would prefer
to go by car rather than a public bus. Though train is probably more
comfortable. In any case this appears just perfect for the short time I
have in Greece.

With a car you will have a problem with parking. In Nafplio the best places
to stay are in the old part of the town where parking is almost impossible. I
would recommend going by bus or train.

| | Guest | Guide / Idea for 3 days in Greece Actually the bus service and route is quite relaxing, Manny. My hubby and I
took the bus from Athens to Nafplio last May and enjoyed the scenery as we
relaxed on the bus.
From there (after 4 lovely days) we then took the bus down to Galatas and
over to Poros. That was a nice trip too, in comfortable coaches.

On the subject of trains: the train journey from Tripoli to Argos is one of
the very best anywhere. Breathtaking scenery in places.
