I thought that, in Greece, they throw piles of white tissues these days.
In Greek Tavernas in this country they get hold of some very cheap
unfinished plates and throw them.

The Generals banned it. They thought it was uncultured. That was when the
tissues started.

That's true actually.. but plate breaking can still happen.
Never seen or heard about the tissues thing before.

Well they throw plates in our neck of the woods and as for our Greek hosts
being told that they can't do something that they have done for centuries,
forget it!
What ever happened to the smoking restrictions in eating places?
Don't you just love that little bit of anarchy that most Greeks possess?
They get my vote every time! For me, at least, Greece provides a little bit
of sanity in a world going mad!

I can assure you that it does not help! I lived in Greece (on Paros) for
five years, my sister in law came out to visit us on holiday while we were
there and met our best Greek friend and ended up marrying him. So now I
have a Greek brother in law and a lovely nephew. The only thing I am certain
of, with this combination of factors, is that I still understand nothing!
Best Regards,

| | Guest | Breaking plates Hi!
I was at a Greek tavern at Antiparos in late December 2001 where they (the
locals people) dancing and party on and where they start whit the white
tissues and then breaking some plats. Later the evening a whole case off
beer bottles gets into the dancers and at late at the evening some break a
chair into the dancers. They have some short breaks now and then to clean
the floor. It was a very happy party!

Of course, I have a nice trip! It is always good to travel to Greece. As you
know, I get a very cheap flight ticket with the fist charter flight this
spring from Stavanger in Norway to Chania at Crete and back home again. I
paid only 110 Euro for the flight so I had to go to Greece for a week. I
went "home" to Antiparos for 3 days and have a nice time there whit good
Greek friends. I want back again to Crete where I rent a small car for 3
days and travel at the west part off Crete (west and south for Chania). I
had my camera whit me and take about 400 pictures this 3 days and I drive
about 500km whit the car. I was all over the west part, mostly up in the
mountains, looking for spring flowers. I find someone, but it had been
better to be there in beginning of April, but maybe another time.

Jan,
We share an interest in the same islands. I visit Antiparos every year.
Which taverna was the party in?
I am setting off next Tuesday for two weeks touring the south-west of
Crete - Paleochora, Sougia, Chora Sfakion, Plakias and Matala.

Presumably you will be sailing from Paleochora to Chora Sfakion - how will
you travel onwards from there?
Actually, don't tell me - you'll walk all the way? If so, good luck to you!
I know of people who have done it, but they certainly don't include me. The
walk from Pal to Sougia I did, though, and very good it was too.

It's a bit of a long walk to walk all the way! If I didn't have my luggage
to worry about, I would probably walk from Pal to Sougia. From Chora Sfakion
eastwards I will be using the bus, hopefully. However, last time I did that
part of the trip (about 10 years ago), I met three other people on the boat
and we shared a taxi from Chora Sfakion to Plakias.
