Where is a good place to stay in athens?

I am not planning to go to Athens at this time in my life as I cannot afford
it at the moment. I plan to go to athens someday, when I have the and
someone to travel with me.

We'll be in Athens for three full days before our cruise departing
Piraeus. We'd like to say in, or as close, to the Plaka as possible, and
as close to the underground. Suggestions for our days in Athens would be
appreciated.

I have stayed at many hotels in Plaka, including Central Hotel, Hotel
Hermes, Hotel Omiros and Hotel Acropolis View. I would try Hotel
Omiros as they have the best prices and room 407 at the top of the
hotel has a view of the Acropolis from the veranda. All of these
hotels are between the new Metro and Plaka, about a five minute walk to
each.
