Go to the library and read one of the manuals or buy a manual for the truck.
There is a plug (wiring) you have to remove. The timing setting should be
    on your emissions label.

for anyone who wants this info, to set up your ignition timing. bring
your engine to top dead center #1 cylinder. drop in your distibutar put
#1 plug wire to where the rotor is pointing on your cap. disconect the
SPOUT connector from your distributar to engine harness. run engine and
set timing mark at zero. reconnect the SPOUT wire and run engine the EEC
will adjust the timing as it needs. don't forget to disconnect the
battery positive afterwards. because running the engine with the SPOUT
wire disconnected will set a trouble code in the computer. hope someone
    can use this info

OK if my info is wrong, why didn't anyone tell me how to do the timing
    procedure when I first asked?

Some people are just plain indifferent!

I didn't see your original post, is there any way I may be of assistance?

Because it's clearly spelled out on the under-hood tune up label?

    As for your second post where you describe the procedure wrongly;
#1 plug wire -has- to go to the cap terminal _marked_ #1, then
the distributor -has- to be installed so that with cylinder #1 at
TDC compression, the rotor aligns with the cap terminal marked #1.
If you don't do this correctly and install any old which-way and
then try to compensate by relocating the plug wires around the
cap, your injectors will be fired out of sequence because PIP
    will be synched wrong.

Lastly, base ignition timing is not set at zero. -ALL- EEC-IV
ignition timing is set to 10* BTDC. EEC-IV will not, can not
compensate for improperly adjusted base ignition timing.

I did. You never said the dist. was out of the truck. If it wasn't, I
    never said to pull it.

Pull the SPOUT, set the timing according to the emissions label on the
truck. Put the SPOUT back in. You're done.

If the engine was apart or the dist. had already been pulled, you should
have mentioned that in your original post.

For those that don't have the original post, it is as follows:

"Can anyone please help me? I'm trying to set my timing. Is there a wire
that u disconect before setting the base timing? Then where on the scale
    do u set it? Again its a 1989 f250 with a 302 v8 multi port fuel
    injecton."
