Some people smoke and get away with it, others die in their 40s and
50s. It probably depends on your genetic make up. Quitting was one
of the best things that I ever did, and was also one of the toughest.
There are some things requiring intense concentration that I was never
quite as good at after quitting.

Monday I had takeout tofu with mixed vegetable sans wine before a meeting, but when I got home had some 2012 Txomin Etxaniz Txakoli rosado. Clean, red berry fruit, light, simple but ok. B-
On a hot Tuesday Betsy made pappardelle with radicchio and watercress salad, and I opened the 2011 Pine Ridge Chenin Blanc. A bit of RS, floral, tropical fruits, nice served cold on a hot day. B/B-

It has cooled enough Wednesday to be back on patio, with grilled lamb chops, potato salad, and kale salad, and the 2010 Baudry Chinon. This is the domaine/estate bottling, drinking pretty well. Some tannin, fresh acids, sweet black raspberry fruit, green herbs (but no green pepper). Good value. B+

On a rainy Thursday I made flounder in a miso glaze, corn, roasted Brussels sprouts, rice with furikake, and salad. I had gone to Stews thinking lobster with white Burgundy, then decided on a cool rainy day I’d rather go fin (thinking meuniere). But when I switched and did an Asian accented meal I probably should have switched to Riesling, but stuck with the
2011 Chavy-Chouet “ Les Enseigneres” Puligny-Montrachet. First bottle corked, quick chill of a second. Rich, to me more Meursault-ish than Puligny, though with a bit of minerality. Balanced acids, rounder fruits, good length. B/B+

With spaghetti and meatballs, asparagus, and salad with sauteed king trumpets, the 2006 A. Occhipinti “Grotte Alte” Cerasuolo di Vittoria, Wow, what a pretty and compelling wine. Crushed red berries, tobacco and fresh herbs, full but plenty of lift, earth/soil notes. Quite long. My WOTW! A-

Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C mediocre. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice. Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.

Hi all. Got letter with advice to introduce myself.. therefore here I m.

I m from Russia but from time to time leave in Indonesia/Bali in the secluded North area of the island a bit far from common tourist routs but right on the beachfront.

The purpose of coming to this forum is to introduce place I've created for family vacation..for my family and probably for your one. It was my dream and now I want to share it with you. ..

As I was travelling with my family alot, I always had to rent two bungalows or hotel rooms or at least family rooms..the prices were always higher for it.

Therefore when I was creating design of small resort in secluded place in North Bali I made what I imagined for myself it should be.
Several big bungalows each designed to fit for one family (4-5 members) with price a bit below alternatives.

The place received name "Bondalem Beach Club". I can not say that it has some special features like many places around (designed for yoga practice or used basically by divers or for healing practice..) no .. this is simply quite, beautifull place with high level of service disigned for families.

Max

Iran Travel Warning

The Department of State warns U.S. citizens to carefully consider the risks of travel to Iran. Dual national Iranian-American citizens may encounter difficulty in departing Iran. U.S. citizens should stay current with media coverage of local events and carefully consider nonessential travel. This replaces the Travel Warning for Iran issued December 7, 2012 to update information on the current security situation in Iran.
Some elements in Iran remain hostile to the United States. As a result, U.S. citizens may be subject to harassment or arrest while traveling or residing in Iran. Since 2009, Iranian authorities have prevented the departure, in some cases for several months, of a number of Iranian-American citizens, including journalists and academics, who traveled to Iran for personal or professional reasons. Iranian authorities also have unjustly detained or imprisoned U.S. citizens on various charges, including espionage and posing a threat to national security. U.S. citizens of Iranian origin should consider the risk of being targeted by authorities before planning travel to Iran. Iranian authorities deny the U.S. Interests Section in Tehran access to imprisoned dual national Iranian-American citizens because Iranian authorities consider them to be solely Iranian citizens; access to U.S. citizens without dual nationality is often denied as well.
The Iranian government continues to repress some minority religious and ethnic groups, including Christians, Baha'i, Arabs, Kurds, Azeris, and others. Consequently, some areas within the country where these minorities reside, including the Baluchistan border area near Pakistan and Afghanistan, the Kurdish northwest of the country, and areas near the Iraqi border, remain unsafe. Iranian authorities have detained and harassed U.S. citizens of Iranian origin. Former Muslims who have converted to other religions, religious activists, and persons who encourage Muslims to convert are subject to arrest and prosecution.
The U.S. government does not have diplomatic or consular relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran and therefore cannot provide protection or routine consular services to U.S. citizens in Iran. The Swiss government, acting through its Embassy in Tehran, serves as protecting power for U.S. interests in Iran. The range of consular services provided by the U.S. Interests Section at the Swiss Embassy is limited and may require significantly more processing time than at U.S. Embassies or Consulates. The Iranian government does not recognize dual citizenship and will not allow the Swiss to provide protective services for U.S. citizens who are also Iranian nationals.
Our ability to assist U.S. citizens in Iran in the event of an emergency is extremely limited. U.S. citizens in Iran should ensure that they have updated documentation at all times and make their own plans in the event of an emergency. For more information, see "What the Department of State Can and Can't Do in a Crisis" at the Department's website. U.S. citizens who travel or reside in Iran are strongly encouraged to enroll in the State Department’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program. U.S. citizens may also enroll in person at the U.S. Interests Section at the Swiss Embassy, located at No. 39, Shahid Mousavi (Golestan 5th), Pasdaran, Tehran. The telephone numbers for the U.S. Interests Section are ( 98) (21)2279-3912, ( 98) (21) 2279-3697,( 98) (21) 2254-2178, and ( 98) (21) 2256-5273, fax ( 98) (21) 2258-0432, email: tie.vertretung@eda.admin.ch, website: http://www.eda.admin.ch/tehran.

U.S. citizens should also review the Department of State's Country Specific Information for Iran and stay up to date by bookmarking the Bureau of Consular Affairs website, which contains the current Travel Warnings and Travel Alerts as well as the Worldwide Caution. You may follow us on Twitter and the Bureau of Consular Affairs page on Facebook as well; however, both Twitter and Facebook are filtered in Iran and will not be accessible without a virtual private network (VPN). If you don't have internet access, current information on safety and security can also be obtained by calling 1-888-407-4747 toll-free in the United States and Canada or, for callers from other countries, a regular toll line at 1-202-501-4444. I think the thing about these dynamic ergos is that they make the rowing
As has been pointed out car excise duty / road tax is based on emissions.
The least polluting cars are free, so obviously cyclists should be also.
However they should be subject to the same registration requirements as
cars - i.e. central register and registration plate.
The roads are very busy - and when you think of the volume of road traffic
laws - highly regulated.
Cyclists want to operate in this highly regulated environment, so they
should be subject to the same controls and responsibilities as other road
users - if a car owner breaks the law they can be tracked via their
registration plate - no reason for cyclists to operate otherwise - many do
cycle responsibly, but others seem to think the road traffic rules are for
motorised drivers only.
Maybe there is also a need for cyclists to prove that they have a working
knowledge of the Highway code - they want car drivers to abide by the rules
but some cyclists don't seem to know that the Highway Code covers them as
well.
Too much red tape? - all road users being registered and having to prove
they have a basic level of knowledge of the rules to protect themselves and
other road users would seem to deliver sufficient benefits to be worthwhile
considering."

I would add the requirement for insurance against third party risks.
> Apparently they do.
>
>
>
> Kit

Ahhhh - nice one - so I suckered myself into that by comparing a system that would help the 'analagy' - i.e. we DAFTLY imho liken sculls to a tightrope walker's pole, when they are no such thing - they are split in the middle and we move them backwards and forwards.

So unless the hands are touching and stabalising each other they are nothing like the pole (i.e. do not help with the "moment of inertia".

I should have asked the question differently. If a tightrope walker held out a stick either side for balance, would he/she sling a 10Kg weight on it!

As the answer in the tighrope walkers case was 'yes if it lowered the centre of gravity' I would postulate that just weighting the sculls would not lower the centre of gravity - but it does possibly explain why I 'like' to have the sculls lower in terms of travel on the recovery - because higher requires better balance/more skill. So I would postulate that more weight on a correctly positioned scull would make it harder to balance :)

Carl - I do completely agree that a correct feathering out should not pull up more water - what I observe (and used to do) was shovel out - when the blade becomes sticky from the water it scoops and the (forgive language) stick of the water behind. I am using square out as an over exaggeration to get a proper feather out.

I have long resisted the coaching that I have received to actually feather out as when I see people do this as instructed, the sudden release of load looks to me like it 'surprises' the sculler and they are not then stable to go into the recovery - so another example of me poorly explaining something I think I understand

Thanks for sharpening my pencil!
My sweet husband went to the supermarket (Publix) and had to get someone to find cottage cheese for him. It seems they give it very little shelf space anymore because of low demand. I guess yogurt has taken its place now. Or, maybe like me, we've all forgotten about it. It was still as good as I remembered, but I probably won't crave it again for a while.
>
>I use it as a dip. Wheat Thins and cottage cheese make a great snack
I like it with Scoops, sprinkled with lemon pepper.
>> Hi When I charge the Leisure Battery with caravan charger you can here a
>> sizzling noise
>> and the battery get quiet hot and soon looses its charge does this mean its
>> knackered
>> Thx in advance for any answers.T.R.
>
> Seen this before!
>
> Long version:
>
> I would bet on one(or more!) of the cells having run dry, either
> through lack of maintenance or age. So, the dried out cell/s has/have
> now gone short circuit resulting in the charging voltage now being
> shared by 5(or less!) cells effectively instead of 6. So the charger
> is attempting to charge a now 10(or lower)volt battery to level
> appropriate to a 12 volt one, resulting in overcharging the remaining
> working cells. The sizzling will be the sound of the dry cell/s, and
> the remaining working cells will be gassing profusely, and getting hot
> to boot.
>
> Short version:
>
> Yes! It's knackered!
>
And possibly dangerous, an overheating battery might produce more hydrogen
gas when charging, which if in a confined space, could result in a larger
than expected, roof vent.
>> They're too short. You can only move them very slightly before they come
The idea is to clean the jet, not scratch it or deform it. As for a paperclip in your gums - ouch!
>> Justipoo's is wriggling again....
>>
>> >> You posted that I had clearly stated that I had ridden past the hotel
>> >> on a bike. I did not even mention a bike. I had just arrived on a
>> >> ferry in a two seater convertible car with a passenger who also has a
>> >> licence. We were going to Hertfordshire. No bikes would have fitted
>> >> in or on the car.
>>
>> So, a known cyclist, posting on a cycling group uses the exact phrase "I
>> rode and drove back and forth several times".
>>
>> Now, since this cyclist also claims to be a teacher of English & an all
>> round expert, we must assume the use of both terms "rode" and "drove"
>> mean different things.
>>
>> Otherwise he would have said "I drove back and forth" and not "I rode
>> and drove back and forth" which clearly means he did both.
>>
>> Since he fails to answer questions about what he 'rode' - do we assume
>> this is a monumental wriggle & he is desperately trying to divert
>> attention -SOP?
>
>Is it possible to ride in or on anything other than a bicycle?
> Remember I was in a two seater convertible car with a passenger (with
>a licence) and a full boot and no bikes.

Why not just answer the question : what was it that you "rode"?
>>>>>
>>>>> Remember your own words: Insurance is for VEHICLES that can cause
>>>>> damage. A pedestrian is not a vehicle.
>>>>
>>>> The word vehicle was unimportant.
>>>>
>>>>> Bicycles are vehicles and they can and do cause damage, therefore
>>>>> they should have compulsory minimum insurance for road risks.
>>>>
>>>> We do not need to insure against things which are very unlikely.
>>>>
>>>> Are you going to make it mandatory to have nuclear fallout insurance
>>>> too? I'm more likely to suffer a nuclear war than be hit by a
>>>> cyclist.
>>>
>>> So now it is based on likelihood, earlier you said it was 'vehicles
>>> that can cause damage. Make your mind up.
>>
>> Same thing. A bicycle is less likely to cause harm, and that harm
>> will be far less.
>>> Should I cancel my car insurance because it is unlikely that I will
>>> run anyone over or crash into them?
>>
>> Yes, you should be allowed to pay for any damages yourself if you
>> think they're so unlikely. OR perhaps have insurance against causing
>> £2 million damage (assuming you can't afford that).
>
> so why wouldn't a cyclist need the same?

Because you can't cause £2 million damage with a bicycle.
