block/brick built, stone slate (aka "greys") roof (probly Grays
Artstone or similar - (anyone know of their competitors?) or maybe
cheap indian sandstone?

So current ponder:- roof structure - manufactured rafters or old
school (beams, purlins rafters etc) ? Of course it will need BRegs -
are ther tables in the Approved Docs somewhere to give me an idea what
I am looking at???

I'm interested in opinions/ experiences/info about both but especially
the latter - it appeals so far! because there would be more storage
options, it would be DIYable, and for the site, a damn sight easier
than trusses to get it delivered....

Cheers

Mozzarella is too mild, IMO, for that. Either of the others should be good
but havarti is closer in flavor to gruyere. You can even use both if you
don't have enough of one.

Tuning for economy

> My wife has a Daewoo Kalos (04) (alright - don't laugh).
>
> I feel it isn't as economical as it should be but I don't want to
> throw money at a garage if there is nothing that can be done.
>
> Does anyone know if a garage would be able to improve it? (over and
> above changing the air filter, etc) Can anything on the fuel
> injection system be checked and adjusted?

that is the problem, cheap cars using outdated designs will be unlikely to
be as economical as something bang up to date and more expensive to buy.
What you save by buying the sort of car you have may be (will be) outweighed
by its lack of economy and rapid depreciation.

Almost nothing (in practical terms) is adjustable in the way of ignition and
mixture on modern cars.

I would expect something like that to do somewhere between 30 and 35 mpg for
reasonable length journeys

As to whether it is uneconomical, mostly that will be down to the way it is
driven and maintained: engine wise: oil and plugs are the most critical, the
engine management will accomodate a dirty air filter for a long time. Good
quality tyres that are correctly inflated are a good way to improve economy,
but driving habits and journey type and length will probably outweigh
everything else.

Sometimes it is easier to lay the machine on its face, detach the back
bearing and slip the belt over that way. Just depends how the machine is
built. When you get about half the screws out you tend to see which way
not to do it!!
Put some precautionary oil on the bushes of the tensioning pulleys as
they tend to dry out and squeak in time.

Good luck
"MichaelW" <michaelhenrikwynn@**********> wrote in message
news:ho1j3k$c37$1@news.eternal-september.org...
>I felt in the mood for some wartime propaganda, so I had a look at these
>two films from 1943.
>
> Corvette K-225 (1943) is the story about the crew and ship and its journey
> with a convoy from Canada to Ireland. The film features Randolph Scott as
> the captain of the ship. Also an unknown actor by the name of Robert
> Mitchum has a cameo as a sailor in a few scenes. He even has 2 or 3 lines.
> The film was pretty straight foreward, although there is something to be
> said for the realism of the film. In some storm scenes, the Atlantic waves
> crush onto the deck and you see that it was made on location. Some scenes
> with German planes, however, feature model aircraft in stead of real
> planes, although scenes from real battles have been intercut quite
> seamlessly.
>
> Five Graves To Cairo (1943) is a story set in Egypt, where a tank soldier
> finds himself behind enemy lines. He assumes the identity of one of Irwin
> Rommel's agents and works undercover at the hotel where Rommel has set up
> his HQ. The film was made by Billy Wilder, and features some nice scenes
> of deception.
>
> Both films end quite patriotically. In Corvette K-225 the heroes are
> saluted with waving flags to the sound of "Bless them all" and in Five
> Graves to Cairo, the hero holds a speech at the grave of his executed girl
> saying "we've got them on the run/ we are coming" and so on.

I was hoping to find out what happened to the girl at the end of FIVE GRAVES
without having to watch the movie. Thanks so much.

CORVETTE K-225 was one of the New York Times 10 Best Films of the Year that
year. Good movie, but pretty much forgotten now.
Sometimes Runs rough when first started. Not just first start of the
day, but even when warmed up and then shut down for 15 minutes it will
often run rough initially like one cylinder is missing.

Roughness usually goes away after it's warmed up but lately it's
started to have a bucking/missing/popping under light acceleration.
Giving it more gas usually smooth's it out. It will run on up to
redline and shift into the next gear and has no problem running up to
Hi Clem.

I know it doesn't help you much but I have the USB/OBD-II cable and
TuneBoy software on the lap-top.

The cable came as part of the deal, buying TuneBoy.

I don't have the technical expertise to establish how hard it might be
to knit an equivalent cable, but, I imagine it should be possible.

What, exactly, do you want to achieve?

If you can't get any help more locally, give me an e-mail and I'll lend
you my cable.......Just leave your passport at the front desk! ;-)

No, it's Coral.
(There are photos online of it sticking out of the monorail shop with just
the nose cone done, and the rest of the train the normal Coral paint with
its white deltas)

Rumors/speculation are that the second of the "Tronorails" will be the

Sorry for another thread on this subject, but I just did my first job
with this tool and wanted to throw my 2 cents worth out there.

I got the old fixed-speed version (for $35--I didn't win the
lowest-price-paid prize here, but still pretty cheap). Just finished an
install of a ventilation fan in the ceiling of a bathroom. I used the HF
tool to cut three holes in the wall: a large on in the ceiling for the
fan, a hole in the corner to route wiring through, and to open up the
existing switchbox hole (and to cut out the old switchbox).

I have to say this was the best $35 I've ever spent on a tool. The thing
worked like a champ. When I bought it, I got both the diamond and the
carbide blades with it, which turned out to be exactly what I needed to
finish this job.

The cuts were done in three stages. I first used the carbide blade to
cut through the plaster. This thing basically went through it like
butter, although it needed a lot of force applied to the tool.

Then, since the plaster had wire screen embedded in it, I used the
diamond blade to cut through the wire. Then I used the toothed wood/soft
metal blade to cut through the lath (it even ate through some of the
remaining wire).

I was afraid that the blades would wear out quickly, but they made it
through all of this cutting with lots of life left to spare.

The tool does get pretty hot after being pushed hard (and one time I got
a hot piece of metal flung onto my cheek as I cut through the wire with
the diamond blade), so it's best to grip it by the rubber.

The other thing I noticed, which would apply to any of these vibrating
tools, is that it's hard to cut something that's not well secured, like
a loose piece of lath; you can see it just vibrating with the tool, and
not being cut.

So in summary I have to say that this tool made this job about 200%
easier than it would have been without it. And for what I used it for, I
see absolutely no need for variable speed.

You were wrong, and I'm man enough to admit it.

We need to start thinking about what this is going to cost and who
Loo0k atb this:

Friday, March 19, 2010 @ 12:22am
A staggering analysis of what health care bill will cost us

Is this an unintended consequence of the health care bill? Or does our
government know exactly what it is doing with the part of the bill
that could bankrupt families?

According to the analysis of this bill by the Congressional Budget
Office - and reported by Pete Winn at CNS News - beginning in 2014,
every American will be required by the Federal government to purchase
health insurance - you could face jail time if you do not. I continue
to believe that mandate is unconsititutional.

If your employer does not offer you insurance, they will have to pay a
fine of $750 per worker that is not insured.

Think about that: If you are an employer, are you going to spend
thousands of dollars per worker per year for insurance? Or are you
going to simply pay the $750 fine?

If the cost of the insurance is left to the worker, how much will it
cost our families?

According to the CBO analysis, the insurance plans the Senate bill
would require families to purchase would cost an average of $15,200
per year in 2016.

“Average premiums among all types of plans in 2016 would be about
$5,800 for single policies and about $15,200 for family policies,” CBO
Director Douglas W. Elmendorf wrote in a letter to Sen. Olympa Snowe
(R-Maine).

But even the bare-bones, minimum coverage required by the individual
mandate in the bill--known as the “Bronze” level insurance plans--
would cost families an estimated $12,000 to $12,500 a year, Elmendorf
told Snowe.

And that bronze level of insurance only covers 60% of medical
services. They say that health care reform will not increase our
nation's debt. But it could add a backbreaking amount to our families'
debt.

At least we'll have insurance for our broken back.

Thanks to orbusmax.com for the tip and link to the CNS News story.
I also get 3 other PBS stations out of Pennsylvania where I live and
they have not aired the show, though there is always the chance they
will in the future.
>> Bigger Than Life is Nicholas Ray at his best. This shockingly
>> entertaining 1956 color melodrama from the singular Rebel Without a
>> Cause auteur stars a blistering James Mason as a suburban teacher and
>> dad whose addiction to a new miracle drug called cortisone turns him
>> into a raging domestic despot. Overturning the contemporaneous clichés
>> of Father Knows Best with sadistic glee, Ray’s Eisenhower-era eye-opener
>> (shot in crisp autumn colors and nearly noirish shadows) is unlike
>> anything you’ve seen, right up to its thrilling climax. Criterion brings
>> Bigger Than Life, which Time Out ’s Geoff Andrew calls “Nicholas Ray’s
>> masterpiece—remarkable and subversive,” to home video for the first
>> time, in beautiful DVD and Blu-ray editions.
>
> I'll be seeing this one, you can bet. I like the fun Nicholas Ray (as
> well as the twisted Nicholas Ray, as in IN A LONELY PLACE).

Yeah, this sounds like a fun house mirror look at American life in the
fifties.

Had you ever heard of it before?

You left out all the important information..
How many washings? Should he use softener? Hot water or cold? Hang on a
line or is it safe in the dryer? How does one keep their feet warm while
the mat is in the laundry?
From what I've read, the "Pre DG" Ls8a will and the "Post DG" will
not.

Anyone know what serial number range or year manufactured that might

Got the offer today, actually.
I will not waste my time or money on Tamron or Sigma. Feh.
