Actually you shouldn't even need hotel reservations in the islands in
May or much of June. When you get off the ferry there will be kiosks
or even individual hotel owners who will offer lots of rooms. Choppy
water is always a possibility, but it's more of a problem during the
winter than the spring and summer.
