Default Ryanair - no checked baggage in future?

Sorry about the duplicate post - just saw that Alan (Brussels) posted the
same subject yesterday with a link from the Guardian. I've no doubt that
Jetstar, the Qantas budget division now operating domestically in Australia,
will be watching Ryanair with interest.

I think Ryanair is making a mistake. They only have three types of
passengers now. First, businesspeople that fly somewhere for a day
or two and do not need luggage. Second, backpackers with minimal
luggage. And third, Greyhound Bus class tourists with little money to
spend. This latter group wants to carry significant luggage. Maybe
Ryanair will be satisfied with the first two groups. As a traveler who
usually carries both a carry-on bag and one medium checked bag, I
will never fly Ryanair.

I seriously doubt if Ryanair is planning for that. I suspect they are
planning to use the cargohold for mail, packages, and freight that
does not have to be somewhere on a specific date, as Ryanair can
cancel a flight completely if they wish. Also, if passengers were
allowed to enter the cargohold, Ryanair would have to ensure that
luggage was balanced throughout the area, not to mention the fact
that passengers might not be too quick about it.

What Ryanair needs to do is get some cargo planes and create decks about 18
inches apart, just like the old slave ships. They could then pack in 500
plus pax into a 737.

Don't forget the oars out the windows. Think of the savings in fuel!

Nah, they just confiscate your 'duty free' for 'safety reasons' and use that
as Jet fuel.
