They are going to have to do better than that. easyJet already allowed
'unlimited' weight in hand luggage.

Personally that makes me even less inclined to fly with them again. I
flew with Ryanair last month for the first time and it was not a nice
experience, and I've heard the same from several other people who've
travelled with them (by contrast, I've flown with easyJet and Basiqair
dozens of times and have had no real cause for complaint with either of
them).
The added inconvenience of having to organise my luggage to fit into a
small bag and to be no more than 10 kilos in weight would probably put
me off completely. | |

I travel between France and the Netherlands every single week for work,
but my suitcase is always at least 15 kilos so I wouldn't fly Ryanair if
they did introduce this new system.

I quite like the KLM check-in system at Schiphol airport where you check
in for your flight using your frequent flyer card or your passport (or
you can check in online), and then you drop your suitcase at the baggage
drop-off. Usually takes 2 or 3 minutes in total.

Lufthansa has e-ticket checkin machines that check in baggage as well.
They also have attendants who make sure the passengers don't make
mistakes.

Obviously the security guard knew exactly where to find it. He ordered me to
open the bag, searched for the small bag with toilet articles and found the
small scissors immediately. No reason to whine about, was a worth of GBP1
or so but I guess such new rules as Ryan proposes must necessarily result in
much more time spend for screening and search in peoples luggage if they've
to bring everything into the cabin.
Time saved at one end is probably spend at another.
50GBP seem to be real expensive for the convenience of checked luggage.
Let's say I'm prepared to pay 10GBP or so for that convenience, all assuming
the tickets are reduced with same amount !

Is this a joke? Such a move will cost them a lot of passengers.

They don't seem to care. Michael O'Leary was quoted in the Telegraph as
saying,
"If people feel they must take a lot of luggage, they can fly with our
higher-fare competitors. If they want to fly round Europe with us for £5 or
£10, they will have to do it Ryanair's way."
Nice man :-(

No passengers = no profit.
