Visa Requirements for Moldova All Western travellers need a visa to enter Moldova.
To get a visa, everyone (except citizens of the EU, USA, Canada and
Israel) needs an invitation from a company, organisation or
individual. Unless you already have contacts in Moldova it is very
difficult to get an invitation.
Only passport-holders from the EU, USA or Canada can buy visas on
arrival at Chisinau airport. No invitation is required. It is also
possible for these citizens to get a visa at het Albita border
crossing when travelling by car or bus into Moldova.
An HIV/AIDS test is required for foreigners intending to stay in
Moldova longer than three months. Certificates proving that applicants
are HIV-negative have to be in Russian and English.
A single transit visa is valid for three days and costs $35. You can
also get a double transit visa ($55), which enables you to enter the
country twice (maximum stay three days each entry).
Single-entry tourist visas costing $55 are valid for one month from
the date of issue. Multiple-entry visas valid for one/two/three months
cost $85/115/135.
Visas can be processed within a day at the Moldoan consulate in
Romania (Blvd Eroilor 8 in Bucharest). Applications must be made
between 9.30 am and 12.30 pm weekdays. You can then collect your visa
between 3 and 4 pm the same day.
Upon entering Moldova you must declare how much foreign currency you
have. Do not lose this declaration form! You must show it when you
leave the country. You are not allowed to leave with more money than
you declared on arrival. Any excess will be confiscated. Keep all
receipts when changing money to prove you obtained it legally. |
