| | Guest | Train Station Frankfort Airport Hello,
I'm travelling to Germany and will be taking a train to the Frankfort
Intl. airport for my return to the USA. When I look up schedules I find
2 airport stations:
Frankfurt a.M., Ffm Flughafen Regionalbahnhof
Frankfurt a.M., Ffm Flughafen Fernbahnhof
Which is the International airport?
TIA,

There is only one station at the airport. Both long distance and regional
trains use this same station. It is similar to the system in Paris where
both RER trains and long distance trains use the same stations. The trip
between the city and the airport costs 3 euros and takes 11 minutes.

Both are located at the airport. The "Regionalbahnhof" is a kind of subway
station under the airport while the "Fernbahnhof" is outside of the airport
building a few hundred meters away. Both are within walking distance.

Claus,
thank you, this question has been driving me crazy as I did not want to
schedule a trip to the "airport" thinking I had a 50/50 chance of
picking the right one.
I assume from your comment that it does not make a difference which one
I take the train to as both are at the International airport.

Only if the extra 15 minute walk is a problem.

If you have a choice take a train to the Regionalbahnhof.

They are over 1Km apart on completely separate lines.

Its' Frankfurt. I believe "furt" in german translate into "ford" so
call it Frankford if you wish but not Frankfort

Less than 15 minutes extra, and there is a check-in for many flights
near Fernbahnhof.

No; IC/EC and ICE trains use the new Fernbahnhof while regional trains
and S-Bahn use the older Regiobahnhof as well as all other rains at
neight when Fernbahnhof is closed.

That's true for trips from downtwown.

Err, it is a bit similar to Paris North as RER/S-Bahn use the
underground station and intercity/high speed trains the other one.
In the good old days, all trains used the Frankfurt airport underground
station (when there was no Fernbahnhof).
