I'd suggest flying to an Island for a few days if you can get a
flight. Rhodes is fantastic and probably quite quiet in places this
time of year.. | |

It depends on what you are going to do there. If it's to visit museums, two weeks are too
short a time. | |

I think you'll find most islands all but deserted this time of year, and
even larger ones like Rhodes very quiet. Could also be cold, wet and almost
certainly windy. But still preferable to Athens, IMHO!!

| | Guest | Greece In my opinion 6 days is way too much time in Athens. The historical part of the
city is actualy very small. You can see the major sites in a short amount of
time, certainly much less than 6 days. I was there for 2 days last June and
that was more than enough for me. I did not find Athens to be nearly as
enjoyable as many other large cities in Europe. However, the history museum was
closed at that time, so I'm sure that would have been very nice to see. I do
not know if it has reopened yet. Even if it has, I can't imagine spending 6
days in Athens. There is a lot of great stuff to see in Greece. Unfortunately
very little of it is there. You can still visit the islands this time of year,
though you would definitely want to research it first to find out where it
would be nice to visit. It is likely to be quite windy and chilly anywhere you
go though. | |

| | Guest | Greece if you want to visit greek monuments and greek towns
you should fly to Turkey
the best preserved greek town is Ephesus
but you find many more
Athens is on the sea. if you call sea the Port of Pyraeus.
Locals do not go to Pyraeus. they go on the other side..
to Port Mesogeas till Cape Sunion.
I agree Athens has not much to offer..
but so are the main Islands.. creta and rhodos
of course.
much and little depend on personal taste and experience.
In Creta there are ruins of Knossos.. so it would be interesting to see
them.
In Rhodos there is the old town and the castle of the templars..
but then ???

Mycenae.
We were there in May 2003. The village is sleepy, the ruins
are fascinating - and were almost deserted - and we took
relaxed day trips by car to Argos, Epidaurus and similar
sites.
We met one other tourist in the Mycenae ruins, two in the
ruined castle above Argos, and about twenty in Epidaurus.

Quite crowded :-)
We were alone when we went in May.

JR:
I highly recommend Kefalonia. It is a great and beautiful island.
Something for everyone!
