Default Why Prague?

We're looking at a trip next year and one optional point would be to include (or
not) Prague as a stop. We'd be going from Berlin to Vienna (where there are many
things we know we want to do in both). While air travel within Europe seems much more
reasonable than I remember, Vienna seems a very expensive exception to fly into,
making an overnight train a possibility. Or, we could stop in Prague for a day or two.

We're still new enough at European travel that we mostly go "to" things -- Eiffel
Tower, major museums, famous cathedrals etc. Major exception: Venice, which seems
to be its own best sight last we went.

Are there important things to see in Prague (what are they) or is it just one
of those places worth it for "just being there" and, if so, why?

Our usual guidebooks haven't really been helpful this time.

I would definitely include Prague in your itenery if possible. We went for
the first time this year and I would definitely go back. There are plenty
of sights to see and it's a great city to hang out in also.

Prague is extremely touristy, but still worth a look. I don't recall
it as being particularly special though. The tourist factor removed
much of the shine for me.

Prague? Brilliant.

There are sights (the Castle and the Charles Bridge for two), and its
worth it for 'just being there' too.

If you like beer there is nothing to stop you from going.

Not to mention that they "pretend they are part of the superior west
side," right?

I visited Budapest, Vienna, Prague, and Berlin last September. Of the
four, I liked Prague least, primarily because it was so overrun by
tourists. Still, it is very much worth a visit. The highlights are
the Castle, Charles Bridge, Old Town Square, and Wenceslaus Square,
all really quite interesting and historical, but there are many other
things to see and do as well. High on the list are eating the good
food and drinking the GREAT beer!
Be sure to go up to the giant Pendulum (not too interesting in itself)
and the park around it, where there is a very nice outdoor restaurant
with a magnificent view overlooking the river and its bridges.
