Yes, depending on your interests.

Jens

PS: If you have no particular interests, do what 95 % of all tourists do.

First, I would get on one of those hop-on hop-off buses which should circle
the city in about an hour. This should give you a basic idea of the Munich
layout. Also, though I generally don't like organized tours, this is one
case where it may be appropriate due to the time constraints. There are 2
1/2 hour guided tours of the city that will take you to the Olympic Village,
Nymphenburg Place at the outskirts of town and other sites. Most of them
depart from the main train station, Haptbahnoff.

I would definitely go to one or two beer gardens, imbibe some of that famous
brew and devour one or more of those roasted pork knuckles , "schweinshaxe".
One of the more famous ones and thus very touristy is the Hofbrauhaus, but
it's worth at least one visit. Another one is the Augustiner Keller, or
Augustiner Cellar. Both of these have become institutions in Munich and are
a must.

I would definitely visit the Schwabing area of Munich, the so-called
artists' quartiers, which has a lot of nice coffee shops, restaurants, etc.
The main street in this area in Leopoldstrasse. Last time I was in Munich in
2002, this seemed to be the place to see and be seen.

Also the main square in Munich, or Marienplatz, is a must. Sit on one of the
benches and absorb the atmosphere.

What time of year are you visiting?

The weather was below 0 last week and there was some snowfall.

Okay, that was exactly what I meant with "what 95 % of the tourists do" :-)

The Augustiner Bräustuben on Landsberger Straße, which is a couple of trams
stops up from the U-Bahn at Karlsplatz is my absolute favourite.
Its the old Augustiner Brewery (really, never have guessed from the name!!)
and has the most wonderful atmosphere.
The beer is ... WOW, the food is .... AHHH, and the people are so friendly.
I would rate it far better that the tourist trap that is the Hofbräuh
And, yes, totally agree, the schweinshaxe just has to be tried, crackling
that would put my Grannies best roast to shame !!

.....for the first time in 20 years (in october). There was snow in the
north too, quite heavy for an hour, but 3 hours later it had all gone
and now it's back up to 12 degrees again.
