Default Ireland?

Hello,
We are scheduled to visit Ireland in July. Any suggestions on what to do,
etc. would be appreciated. We'll be there a week.
Thanks in advance.

What prompted you to pick Ireland? That would give us some idea of what
your interests are and what might interest you. Hiking, fishing,
horseback riding, castles, vegging out in pubs (one of my specialties),
golf, quaint towns, small islands? And that's just a few things.

We just returned from two weeks in Ireland. Three days and four nights in
Dublin; two days and two nights at a fishing lodge in Mayo; five days and
nights in a friend's cottage on the Rosagull Peninsula exploring all of
northwest Donegal.

If I only had a week, I'd do Dublin and perhaps up as far as the Valley of
the Boyne in County Meath to enjoy Slane and Trim--plus Newgrange and the
other sites older than the pyramids at Gaza.

If it's you first visit, move slowly and savor every minute. You'll relive
this magic experience for the rest of your life.

I suggest you start by buying a guide book and reading up on the country.

You are absolutely correct, James. We spent a few days in Ireland in April.
Came home with the feeling that it was the greatest trip ever! I was ready
to go back the next week. In fact, we have reservations made for next
March/April.

Without knowing what you are looking for, I can suggest a town called Youghal
as a great place to call home for a week and take day trips (Waterford, Cashel,
Cork, Blarney, Kilkenney, and more). We stayed at Harvey's Dock in July 2001.
The southern part of the country also has very pleasant weather.

Yes, Youghal is a nice place, as are the others you mention. Personally I
would allocate more than a day trip to Cork -- one of the best small
cities in Europe IMHO.

But of course, it all depends what the OP is interested in. Broadly
speaking, I suppose, for scenery the west coast and to a lesser extent the
south; for cities, Cork, Galway and Dublin would be my order of preference
but they're all worth visiting (unlike Limerick); for pottering about and
taking it easy, almost anywhere,
