US Transit without visa rules

Oddly enough (with a nod to Tom Clancy), a flight from LHR to MEX or
vice versa (amongst other destinations) will overfly various
"interesting" places.

The great circle route MEX-LHR crosses directly over Washington, DC.

Yes, I was considering posting a message with speculation that flights
like that would also soon require passengers to have a US VISA. Seemed
too silly...
