Cheap/Clean/Private Places to Stay in Europe > My husband and I are 29 and 21, respectively. When we travel through

If you plan on visiting mainly the cities, then trains work best. A car can
be a nuisance in the major cities. If you plan on visiting small towns and
scenic areas, then a car is the best bet, if you can afford the cost.

B&B's in Britain are a good choice at a reasonable cost. The B&B owners take
an obvious pride in their establishments and are excellent sources of local
information about sights and restaurants. Small hotels and pensions can have
good rooms for a fair price. I like to book my rooms through the local
tourist offices. You get a good, government inspected room with the
amenities you've specified. If you need a budget room or a room in a
specific area, let the tourist office employee know and they'll try and find
a proper room. I've booked rooms in Britain, Belgium, The Netherlands,
Germany, Denmark, Sweden and Austria through the local tourist offices and
have never been disappointed. In the larger cities and towns, the tourist
offices charge a fee for booking a room, but many of the smaller towns offer
the service for free. |
