Default Northern Italy in Late August-September for water lovers-calling all italians for tips!!!

Hi There

Got a great deal on a flight to Bergamo near Milan at the end of
August.I'm hoping someone could recommend some nice area's to visit
that are not thronged with and geared towards non-italian tourists
eg.Cinqueterre-beautiful but ultrabusy-yeuch.Soemwhere Italians go on
holidays would I'm sure be great. After the disappointment of
Cinqueterre we were recommended Viarreggio which was very pleasant
indeed and hadn't really been mentioned on any guide books.

Being water lovers we are quite willing to travel to either coast to
get somewhere nice and realxed.I'm sure the lakes would be completley
crazy though at that time of year.Any help would be greatly
appreciated. Also we are not driving and would be depending on public
transport-which is quite wonderful in Italy anywaay.

Thanks a million

I wouldn't say the lakes are completely crazy, not compared to the Cinqueterre
at least :) You might think about a trip to Aosta and up the valley to see the
Matterhorn from the Italian side. A hike up Mt. Rosa is like a day in
Switzerland, only the food is better.
