Default four star hotels in Madrid and Barcelona

Can anyone recommend four star hotels in these two cities. Also is
Tryp Atocha located in a seedy area? Are there any areas to avoid?
email to avas@ thanks.

In Barcelona, I stayed a week ago at the Atrium Palace, which is near
the Ramblas, brand new, 4*, and charged us only 130 euros plus tax
(total just under 140 euros per night). Great value, presumably because
it's not well known yet - found on Venere.com.

We stayed in the Melia Madrid Princesa in Madrid. Nice accommodations,
good location, near the metro. In Barcelona we stayed in the Avenida
Palace--going back there in October.

Le Meridien in Barcelona was great --- right on Las Ramblas.
