Look up the Thanet Hotel in Bloomsbury. Nicely located near the
tourist
areas and not too expensive. Technically it is a B&B I believe.

Usually central London = quite horrible and expensive. My brother stayed
at Hyde Park Rooms a month ago (which is not really at Hyde Park but near
Paddington) and found that to be quite OK (see tripadvisor reviews).
